Imagine, your 5-year-old kindergarten child is told that he or she cannot speak English — cannot speak their first language — for half the school day. For some parents in Wyoming, that’s not a prohibition they need to imagine.
The official ban on speaking English in the classroom is a fact in Casper, Wyoming; and many parents think that’s perfectly fine. They’re happy, in fact, that their young kids are being forced to learn and speak Spanish at such an early age.
WFSB-TV reported on this first-of-its kind program in Wyoming where officials at Park Elementary School in Casper proudly defend the dual-language education…and a number of parents reportedly stand with them on forcing the youngsters not to speak English.
