If anyone is surprised by the latest Republican entry into the 2016 race for president, then that person’s last name must be Van Winkle…as in Rip. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker confirmed early Monday that he’s running for the GOP nomination, making him the 15th entry into the crowded Republican field.
Shortly after 6 AM ET, the Walker campaign took to social media to make his candidacy official…or at least all-but-official, as the governor plans an appearance outside of Milwaukee later today to announce his candidacy live and in person. The campaign’s cat-out-of-the-bag tweet read as follows:

A couple of hours after that alert — and clearly demonstrating the candidate’s awareness of the growing power of social media in the political sphere — the campaign sent out another tweet with a request for Walker supporters.
The big “E” with a design and colors suggesting the American flag is an integral part of Walker campaign imagery.

By clicking on the video above, you can watch the short piece released by the Walker campaign early Monday, in which the newly announced candidate declares that “American needs new, fresh leadership with big, bold ideas from outside Washington to get things done.”
