They rushed to the scene of the shootings and worked frantically to try to help their fallen colleagues, but members of the NYPD and emergency medical personnel were unable to save the lives of two of New York City’s finest on Sunday.
Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu had been ambushed and shot point-blank in their patrol car by Ismaaiyl Brinsley, who had boasted about putting “wings on pigs” after grand juries decided not to issue indictments against police officers involved in the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner.
The footage you can see by clicking on the video above is silent, but the desperate activity that’s depicted speaks volumes about what went on near that intersection in Brooklyn.

Ironically, the two officers targeted by the lone gunman had been working overtime as part of an anti-terrorism drill in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood.
