Depending on the source, Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump either lost or gained a little ground as a result of his performance in Thursday’s debate. Either way, his top-tier status appears secure for the immediate future.
Whether he can maintain his early success is a topic of much punditry. Moving beyond his first debate, however, Trump proved he has not lost his ability to deliver campaign lines that resonate with his audience.
Speaking in Michigan Tuesday, he touched on the criticism he has received from fellow GOP candidates by issuing his own jabs at specific targets, including Rand Paul and Rick Perry.

It was an apparently unscripted line that earned Trump a significant amount of media attention. When one female attendee raised a copy of the candidate’s book, The Art of the Deal, he responded with characteristic confidence.

“Hold that book up, please,” he instructed her. “One of the greatest. That’s my second-favorite book of all time.”
He then revealed that his all-time favorite book is the Bible, an admission that received varied social media reaction.

…while others thought it was a line specifically meant to curry favor with Christians after attracting criticism with his admission that he does not believe in asking God for the forgiveness of his sins.
