A Tennessee man, Tim Decker, says he heard God speak to him in church–and that’s when everything changed for another man, a stranger.
It started at Rich Acres Freewill Baptist Church, where Eddie Hartman, a church deacon, asked for prayers for his son Todd.
Todd Hartman desperately needed an organ donation. He had been on kidney dialysis for more than a year. He had been put on dialysis after collapsing and experiencing kidney failure while closing up for work. It was his father, Eddie, who found him collapsed on the floor.

Decker says he heard God speak in church: “That’s when I felt the Lord say it’s your turn, and everything will be alright.”
Decker continued to ask for God’s will in the matter, and test after test indicated that it would work out if Decker gave his kidney to Hartman.
They traveled to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, where the operation was a great success.

Decker spoke about giving his kidney: “A lot of people have questioned– why would you do it– the reply is why wouldn’t you do it? I mean if you were in my spot and you had a child, would you not want someone to take care of your child?”
He also said: “I’m a tool in God’s toolbox…he just put a piece of it and put it in somebody else and made it work.”
Decker hopes that more people will become organ donors after hearing his story.
Over 100,000 people in the U.S. are waiting for an organ donation.
