It happened again — during the memorial service for slain NYPD officer Wenjian Liu, hundreds of cops turned their backs in a silent show of protest against New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.
The mayor who many in NYC law enforcement believe hasn’t supported police in tense and troubled times had just begun to speak when the very public show of disrespect took place.
As the New York Times notes, rank and file officers disregarded pleas from departmental leadership and did what others had done at the funeral of Liu’s murdered partner, Officer Rafael Ramos.
Coming after a week in which the mayor sat down with police union leaders to try to defuse tensions; in which statistics reflected a de facto work slowdown by officers across the city; and in which the police commissioner explicitly asked officers not to turn their backs, it showed a willingness by the rank and file to disregard the leadership.
The protest by members of the NYPD may have been silent, but on her Fox News show, Judge Jeanine Pirro was anything but, as she laid into Mayor de Blasio as a “two-faced” politician allowing his sharply divided city to fall into “the worst of times.”

Judge Jeanine also aimed her pointed criticism at another jurist, “turn-em-loose” Brooklyn Judge Laura Johnson, about whom Western Journalism has posted. Liberal and lenient, Judge Johnson recently released from custody a man who made threats against police, despite the request of a prosecutor to set a high bail.
