It was a big catch for a small town police department. And when they had cuffed and secured the suspected gunman from the Charleston church massacre, the members of the Shelby, N.C., police force did something you might expect to see on a football field or basketball court instead of on the side of a road after a tense arrest following a high-profile manhunt.
As Yahoo! News reports, the Shelby Police Department has released dash cam video from the patrol cars of officers involved in the traffic stop that led to Dylan Roof’s apprehension last Thursday:
While the traffic stop and arrest of Roof are fairly uneventful, the officers’ reactions are anything but.
They brandished big smiles after Roof was in cuffs and the threat of danger had passed.
But big smiles aren’t all you can see in the video, as officers expressed both excitement and relief that the 21-year-old alleged mass murderer had been pulled over and taken into custody without incident. By clicking on the video above, you can see for yourself what else the police officers did after nabbing the suspect in this rural North Carolina town in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
By the way, police say they found a semi-automatic handgun hidden beneath a pillow in the back seat of the car Roof was driving when he was caught.
