Even though Jeff Bezos now owns the Washington Post, I’m unhappy to report there are still Obama statist cheerleaders employed by the venerable newspaper. Catherine Rampell writes a stunningly idiotic piece today that headlines, “As Congress cripples the IRS, tax rates are likely to rise.” She writes, “Congress is effectively forcing itself to raise rates soon as a direct result of two distinctly foolhardy policies: aggressively defunding the nation’s main revenue collection agency, and continuing to complicate and Swiss-cheese-ify the tax code.” Although I agree that the tax code should be simplified, her main point–that defunding the IRS is a problem, not a solution–is just a misguided quote from an unproductive liberal product of our pathetic education system.
After detailing recent cuts to the IRS budget, she goes on to say, “The IRS is hardly a popular agency, even when it isn’t giving tea party groups a hard time about applying for tax-exempt status.” The way she sloughs off the agency’s criminal activity, like only a true card-carrying, ignorant, totalitarian, statist could, makes my blood boil. The Internal Revenue Service didn’t simply give the Tea Party a hard time. They criminally tried to stop the political opposition and then illegally obstructed justice by destroying the electronic email trail. They have stonewalled Congress, the branch of government tasked with oversight by the Constitution of the United States. They are still doing this. Obama’s Justice Department is preventing a special prosecutor from being appointed to investigate these crimes. President Richard Nixon resigned over attempting to use the IRS for political purposes. This writer is part of the Obama cheerleading media that have refused to do their job and hold this president accountable.
We also found out recently that the IRS was sharing prohibited personal tax data with the White House for political activity. Again, the IRS is stonewalling the investigation by withholding email evidence.

The idiocy continues. After describing the lack of resources for the IRS to conduct audits, she writes, “Europe provides a cautionary tale in this regard. Italy and Greece have been stuck in vicious cycles in which tax evasion runs rampant, requiring politicians to raise tax rates to extract more money from the few law-abiding saps still out there, encouraging people to hide economic activity from even higher tax rates, and so on.”
Let me get this straight. She is using the inevitable problems of socialist Europe, who won’t let go of its cradle-to-grave welfare system, and associated high tax rates, to make a case for better tax collection in the U.S? That is a classic case of not being able to see the economic growth forest for the communist trees. Of course people evade taxes in Europe, because the freaking government takes all their money!
This article is a sad case of an ignorant opinion writer attempting to cover for a bloated, criminal, over-powerful president. What is the public to do when it can’t stop a president from acting illegally? How about cut off the money? Doesn’t that make sense? We don’t have a revenue collection problem, we have a massive overspending problem. Defunding the IRS is one of the only means the persecuted have to stop the persecution.
To be honest, I had high hopes for the Washington Post under Bezos. I’d bet money Catherine Rampell is a card carrying, Obama contributing Dem. I bet she has never had to run a business. I bet she has a degree in women’s studies and drives a Prius. I’m also damn sure she is the product of some liberal, America hating, dope smoking professor who is spending the American taxpayers’ money studying the effect of peach flavored condoms on rabbits in Australia. I expected more from the new WaPo.
