Rasputin was a wandering holy man who was said to have mystical healing powers and enjoyed an outsized influence over Tsar Nicholas II during the first world war. He made many enemies and is blamed for the bad decision making and policy during the tsar’s final years. In the end, he was murdered a year before the tsar’s entire family.
Recently, Obama’s close advisor, Valerie Jarrett, has been referred to as Obama’s Rasputin. She holds an unusual sway over the first family and the president himself due to her long time role as their advisor from the early Chicago days. National Review reports,
“Jarrett appears to exercise such extraordinary influence that in some quarters on Capitol Hill she is known as “Rasputin,” a reference to the mystical monk who held sway over Russia’s Czar Nicholas as he increasingly lost touch with reality during World War I.”
Losing touch with reality seems to be a common theme connecting the former Russian ruler and the Obama administration. A few months back, Jarrett was interviewed by a mainstream media outlet and the associated video caught a picture of three figurines of white men in suits bowing down to her picture. If that is not losing touch with reality, I don’t know what is. Imagine if Karl Rove had been photographed with figurines of black women bowing down to him?
Many of the president’s recent misguided policies, on everything from the Middle East to racial policy in the United States, have been said to relate back to her guidance. She is said to linger after national security and cabinet meetings to give the president her opinions alone, frequently knocking down more rational voices from the president’s inner circle. She is said to be feared by that circle as she holds undue influence over President Obama.

The scariest part of the leaks from those in the know regarding shenanigans at the White House is that she also serves as the president’s fan club, constantly stroking his ego and telling him how great he is (as if he needed someone to do that since his arrogance is already so outsized). Other criticisms are starting to emerge as well. Her ridiculously large staff, said to be over three dozen, is a frequent sore point for her detractors. The abuse of Secret Service protection has also been leaked recently.
All in all, we have a situation where a person of questionable effectiveness is allowed undue influence over the leader of the free world. This influence is leading to bad policy and failures across the globe for the United States. The media needs to force this “most transparent administration in history” to come clean about Valerie Jarrett’s role in the White House.
