Holding a copy of Tuesday’s Wall Street Journal, Donald Trump addressed a crowd of supporters in Myrtle Beach, SC on Tuesday.
“So the Wall Street Journal, this morning…I look at the Wall Street Journal. I pick it up. Look at that picture (Trump holds up the WSJ and shows it to the crowd). Okay. I’m gonna explain what that picture is…It’s a picture of Putin and the leader of Iran getting together, and they’re now forming a major partnership, a major coalition, and they were both forced into it because our president has no clue.” Trump was referencing the fact that the U.S., under the direction and leadership of Mr. Obama, signed a controversial nuclear agreement with Iran. The entire rally can be seen by clicking here.
“So now we just gave Iran, a hundred and fifty billion dollars. We made one of the worst transactions I’ve ever seen in my life. Forget about deals with countries. This is the most incompetent negotiation I have ever seen in my life. We get nothing…All we do is get nuclear weapons within 10 years, and probably a lot sooner than that…And they get 150 billion, they get 24 day periods, they even get in many cases can self-police.” Trump then made an innuendo about Iran’s ability to be honest.

Trump went on to describe the nature of the transaction and those involved in the nuclear deal. “This was done by grossly incompetent people. This was done by people who have no idea what they’re doing. And we don’t even get our prisoners back. We gave them 150 billion dollars. We don’t even get our prisoners back. We get nothing.” And in true Trump discourse, he went on to repeat the notion several times.

“Do you believe it? Because they’re now a wealthy terror state, and we could have made a great deal. We should have said, we want our prisoners back.” Trump then referenced the fact that the Obama administration took three years to negotiate with the Iranians and walked away from the negotiating table without bringing our U.S. prisoners home. With respect Saeed Abedini’s imprisonment in Iran Trump said, “I mean one of them said because he’s a Christian, he’s a pastor, he’s a Christian. We should have said we want our prisoners back, fellas go ahead, he doesn’t mean anything to you. Our people want him back. It’ll set a nice tone.” Trump then described how he has a proven track record of negotiating good deals and implied that he would have gotten Abedini freed.

Trump then turned his attention to the nuclear aspects of the Iranian deal. “Nuclear is a very bad word…And I want to get Obama out because he doesn’t have a clue…He thinks that global warming is our biggest problem. Can you believe this? Global warming. I’ll tell you what our biggest problem and I hate to even say it. Our biggest problem is nuclear warming. That’s our biggest problem. And unless we’re smart, and I mean smart, and tough, and cunning, they’re going to be problems like you’ve never seen. You think Paris was bad…we better get smart, so I like the idea of an agreement, but I like the idea of an agreement where we win.”

Trump went on to describe how he would have negotiated with Iran. He described how he would have doubled and tripled the sanctions and then they would have come back to the table. That’s where he would have told the Iranians that they weren’t going to get 150 billion dollars, a figure Trump called, “too much money.”
