A list featuring the top 101 counties with residents who keep firearms in their homes has been released by City-Data.com. A county from Texas does not appear on the top half of the list, in spite of being second in the nation after Kentucky in background checks for gun applications in 2012.
In “Top 101 counties with the highest percentage of residents that keep firearms around their homes,” a list compiled by City-Data.com, Fairbanks North Star Borough in Alaska tops the list with 59.1 percent. The City of Anchorage joins Fairbanks at number 11 with an even 50 percent. Louisiana has six counties in the top 30 with six.
Although Texas was second in 2012 on the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), a unofficial proxy measure for determining gun sales, a county did not show up from the Lone Star State until 73, which was Harris County (Houston metro area) with 30.4% gun ownership. The only other Texan county was Dallas County, which was 82 on the list with 27.7%.
