A few days ago, Western Journalism reported on an unprovoked assault on a white commuter aboard the St. Louis Metrolink by a group of black attackers after one of them asked the victim what he thought of the Michael Brown situation.
The 43-year old man who was repeatedly punched and kicked told authorities that he was returning home from work and minding his own business when one of the suspects began attacking him for no reason other than his declining to comment on the Ferguson shooting. There was no robbery attempt, said the victim, whose assault was caught on camera.
Police in St. Louis say they’ve arrested two people in connection with the beating on the commuter train — a 20-year-old African-American man and a 15-year-old suspect.

Yet, despite the fact that the victim of the attack is white and the alleged perpetrators are black — despite reports that the attackers went after their victim only after the racially charged Ferguson shooting was mentioned — prosecutors say the adult suspect in the beating incident will not be charged with a hate crime.
