White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders has finally put the controversy over the “piegate” scandal to bed by sharing photos proving she personally baked pies for Thursday’s White House press potluck.
“It’s pie time! With or without bourbon @AprilDRyan?” Sanders wrote in the first of a series of tweets detailing her baking process.
Sanders tagged April Ryan, a reporter who previously questioned whether the press secretary actually baked a pecan pie for Thanksgiving.

“Show it to use on a table,” Ryan had tweeted in November in response to Sanders’ photo of the pie.
On Wednesday, Sanders did just that with her latest baking creation. Following her first tweet, she posted a picture of the pecans she used in the pie. The pecans apparently came from the family farm of Nick Ayers, Vice President Mike Pence’s chief of staff.
Sanders’ next tweet had two pictures in it. The first showed the pie ingredients mixed up in a bowl, while the second displayed the pies baking in the oven.
When the pies were done, she posted a picture of them on the table. “Excited to share these at tomorrow’s press potluck. Merry Christmas to the WH press corps!” Sanders wrote in the caption.
Ryan responded that she was excited to see the pies in person. However, in a follow-up tweet, she made her sarcasm clear.

Many on Twitter were entertained by the lighthearted pie-themed controversy. But comedian Rosie O’Donnell, an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump and his administration, wasn’t.
“I feel like I am in the twilight zone reading this happy pie talk,” she wrote on Twitter.
“She (Sanders) is making a mockery of every reporter in the pool … of the institution of journalism … pressers full of bulls—-.”
“Come on,” O’Donnell concluded.
