With the tension between ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) and the U.S. continuing to increase, threats are going back and forth on Facebook and Twitter with hashtags #AMessageFromISIStoUS and #AMessageFromUStoISIS.
There now seems to be an unsettling link between Chicago and ISIS radicals–the most significant connection being the recent death of James Foley, a beloved American journalist who graduated from Chicago’s Northwestern University.
A recent pro-ISIS tweet is now receiving special attention due to its particularly clear and terrorizing message.

The picture on the left is of an old building with an unidentified person holding a card in front of the building (only the hand can be seen in the picture), and the words are written in Arabic. The card is dated June 20, 2014.

WGN Investigates has researched the location of the building and has discovered it to be the Old Republic, a landmark building located in Chicago.
It’s a nasty, sometimes horrible back and forth coming on the heels of U.S. bombing of ISIS forces in Iraq involving Facebook and Twitter pages with titles like, #AMessageFromISIStoUS and vice versa.
Near the top of this tit for tat is the gruesome video and pictures of journalist James Foley’s beheading.
According to WGNtv, many of the tweets are in response to one depicting the White House with the ISIS flag in front of it.
The above tweet is somewhat haunting because it was taken on American soil, most likely by an ISIS militant or advocate. As WGN reports, the Old Republic Building is on 307 Michigan Ave, at the corner of Michigan and South Water Street.
What we found online was stunning. So we brought it to the attention of the building security team. The apparent message in this photo dated June 20th of this summer, is “soldiers of the Islamic state of Iraq and Syria will pass from here soon.”
And while the validity of the apparent threat contained in the tweet has not been confirmed, it should be noted that August 9 – the day the tweet was sent – was also the day on which the U.S. began airstrikes against ISIS positions around Mt. Sinjar.
Moreover, Chicago is President Obama’s city, and Obama has been the target of Islamic State vitriol since the airstrikes commenced.
For example, when a video of American journalist James Foley being beheaded was released on August 19, a central message in it was that the killing was a result of the U.S. airstrikes ordered by Obama. The Islamic State pledged further attacks on Americans if the strikes don’t stop.
Here is another tweet with the same images and a different, but equally horrifying, message:

Another chilling tweet retweeted (the original user who tweeted the message has since been suspended):
According to WGNtv, the security working at the Old Republic Building declined to comment, as well as the Chicago PD, secret service, and FBI.

The identity of the person who tweeted the image remains unknown, and the reasoning behind the Old Republic being chosen as an apparent target is also undetermined.
