As Western Journalism reported, Michael Sandford, a British citizen, attempted to kill Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Las Vegas on Saturday. Sandford grabbed a police officer’s gun and wanted to kill Trump, but he was unable to get the gun out of the holster and was quickly subdued.
During Sandford’s arraignment, an interesting fact came to light: Trump’s would-be assassin had overstayed his visa and was in the United States illegally.
Throughout Trump’s campaign for president, he has harped on his belief that the immigration system in the United States is broken and needs to be overhauled.

In a policy statement on his campaign website, Trump directly addresses security concerns that arise when individuals overstay their visas:
Millions of people come to the United States on temporary visas but refuse to leave, without consequence. This is a threat to national security. Individuals who refuse to leave at the time their visa expires should be subject to criminal penalties; this will also help give local jurisdictions the power to hold visa overstays until federal authorities arrive. Completion of a visa tracking system – required by law but blocked by lobbyists – will be necessary as well.
Consistently, Trump pointed to illegal immigrants as being part of a greater national security problem. Now his stance has taken on new meaning with the revelation that the man who attempted to kill the billionaire presidential candidate was himself an illegal at the time he committed the crime.
The would be #Trump assassin was an illegal immigrant. It’s downright poetic.

Sandford has been charged with an act of violence on restricted grounds, KLAS-TV reported. According to his lawyer, he has not been diagnosed with a mental illness but has been treated for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and once attempted suicide.
Attempted Trump assassin is an illegal immigrant. He will be the first to test the catapult ride over the wall.

KLAS-TV reported Sandford was “unemployed, was living in his car, and that he has Asperger syndrome, a form of autism. His mother was reportedly sending him money and told prosecutors he is a flight risk if he makes bail.”

Sandford reportedly admitted to driving from California to Nevada to kill Trump and that he had been planning the attack for a year. He visited a Nevada gun range to get target practice on a Glock before he attended the rally and tried to unholster the officer’s weapon.
