President Obama held a joint press conference at the Bank of Estonia with President Ilves of Estonia today. White House correspondent Jon Karl pointed out the mixed messages that President Obama had said regarding ISIS.
In the first remarks, Obama said:
“The bottom line is this: Our objective is clear and that is to degrade and destroy ISIL so it’s no longer a threat, not just to Iraq, but also the region and to the United States.”

Later in the press conference, when he was asked to clarify that the U.S. wants to destroy ISIS, Obama backtracked his earlier remarks, saying:
“We can continue to shrink ISIL’s sphere of influence, its effectiveness, its financing, its military capabilities to the point where it is a manageable problem.”
On ABC’s Good Morning America, Karl commented to George Stephanopoulos on these two different takes on the terrorist group:

“So in the course of one set of remarks, he went from talking about destroying this terrorist group to making it into a manageable problem.”
