Americans are horrified by the images they see of ISIS’ Islamic militants executing our citizens by beheading overseas. Now, an Islamic American in Miami Beach has threatened to do the same to Jewish Americans.
According to CBS News’ Miami affiliate, two members of the Ohev Shalom Congregation were standing outside of their synagogue following a service Saturday night when Diego Chaar and another man walked by them. Chaar suddenly yelled out, “Allah Akbar!” (Arabic for “God is the greatest”) at least twice and, “We will cut your heads off.”
The congregants immediately called 911. The police tracked Chaar down a few blocks away. He was arrested Sunday and then re-arrested Tuesday night after returning to the synagogue.

Rabbi Phineas Webberman said, “That’s called assault. Threatening to kill.” Phineas served as a chaplain for the Miama and the Miama-Dade police departments.
According to the police report, Chaar denied making the threats. Police charged him with misdemeanor assault and stalking. He is out of jail on bond.
Chaar told Channel 7 News that he converted to Islam while serving time in prison for drug trafficking. “When asked why he used the sacred phrase, Chaar said, ‘I was trying to convert them. I’ve converted a lot of my friends.’”

“It’s terrible,” said Joe McCormack, a retired officer and longtime friend of Rabbi Webberman. “How would you feel if I said ‘I’ll cut your head off you Jew.’ It shouldn’t be. It shouldn’t be allowed.”
Webberman offered some advice to Chaar: “Change your religion to a religion of life, not one of death.”
He said he now wants Chaar’s conduct investigated as a hate crime. The Rabbi said Ohev Shalom has increased security following the incident, and he has instructed the Jewish community to be cautious.
