Take a child in the formative years of four through ten and drill them in the ways of the holy warrior. Define the enemy, immerse them in the edicts and practices of the “one true religion” of the world, and you will have a person with a mindset that is on a completely different plane than one taught otherwise. Somewhat less of an automaton than the Terminator, but still a determined entity that keeps moving toward the destruction of non believers. They have inertia and will keep coming and will not stop, unless acted upon by an outside force.
They will probe everywhere for opportunities to take advantage of any opposition. They associate negotiation and appeasement with weakness. Their numbers are growing every day; they have financial backing, and a plan. As the spider spins its web to wait for hapless prey, the jihadists are spinning their web around us as we stand and watch. They observe our every move and have a knowing smile inside about the ease of causing a disaster. All they have to do is be very careful in the planning and execution of operations.
These fanatics believe they are on a mission on behalf of heaven, and dying for the cause is a way to get there. In their way of thinking, non believers are not worthy of existence, and slaughtering them is nothing more than killing evil animals. There is no remorse as they are performing a holy act for their religion. They think nothing of using their own innocents as shields when launching attacks. There is no pleading with them as they know their way is the only way. Their path to world power is terror, militarism, or, as a last resort, the slow but steady way which is to grow the population and vote their way in.

The writing has been on the wall for some time, but many non middle east countries have either not read it or thought it was part of the normal graffiti. One country did read it, that being Japan. The only Muslims allowed in are those who work for foreign corporations. There are no mosques there. The European countries that sent crusading knights to the middle east almost a thousand years ago are now taking a hard look at who is on their front lawns. It took a while, but one degree at a time boils the infidel frog. The Crusades in reverse. Hello!
There are those who won’t believe the worst and just hope for the best. There are others who are a bit more militant and want to eliminate the threat wherever it may be by whatever means is necessary. This may infer that some of the means are just as barbaric as those used by the religious extremists because that is precisely what they understand. Tolerant liberals and other flower children will insist that those acting in such a manner would be no better than the terrorists. They do have a valid point, and if things should go badly and they are lined up to get shot or decapitated, at least they will have the comfort of knowing they did the right thing. They turned the other cheek.
Do we want freedom of religion to continue? Of course. Can we allow fanatics the freedom to force their religious beliefs upon others with extreme prejudice? Absolutely not. No group, religious or otherwise, can be permitted to plan the overthrow and/or alteration of our principles of freedom by using our own laws against us. Here in this great country there have to be some changes in the laws and strict enforcement of those in place. Despite sharia advocates in Muslim communities, these people must be officially informed that while they live here, federal, state, and local ordinances are the law, not any religious doctrine, and that is final. When dealing with groups that clearly threaten our way of life and our democratic way of governing, tolerance is not an option.

I’m sure that the ACLU will fight such changes in the laws and, if successful, they will probably be thanked by the extremists with a special presentation of lead or cutlery for their efforts. As for the rest of us, we can only attempt to keep our morality and tactics “civilized” within its definition. There may be times however, when in order to save thousands of lives, we will have to set aside fairness, mercy, and our morality in some of the actions the extremists force us to take if we are to survive as a free society.
Our adversaries are focused and dedicated in their holy mission. Unless we find the inspiration to be even more committed to our goals than they are, their vision of the future will come to pass.
