Cosmopolitan magazine has upset a legion of Obama fans with its latest cover featuring a family photo of the Kardashian girls. It isn’t the girls that are necessarily the problem, though; it is the fact that Cosmo labeled them “America’s first family,” upsetting Obamaites everywhere (pardon the language in the cover below).

Naturally, the phrase “first family” has always been the appellation of the occupants of the White House; and after the image of Cosmo’s newest magazine cover went public, Obama fans ran to social media to express their outrage that the magazine took away the Obamas’ title of first family and gave it to the selfie-indulging, TV reality show clan. One Twitter user scolded the magazine, saying, “Shame on u Cosmo for having the audacity to call Kardashian/Jenner clan First Family! Last time I checked the OBAMA family was.” Another slammed both the Kardashians and the magazine, saying, “Cosmo had the audacity to refer to that Plastic Pack Kardashian/Jenner clan as ‘America’s 1st Family’ on the Nov cover.” Yet another helpfully photoshopped the Obamas’ faces onto the Cosmo cover.
A Twitter user named ‘Maggy’ even posted a photo suggesting that the President might be flipping Cosmo the bird…
Then there were many who insisted that naming the Kardashinas as the nation’s first family was evidence of Cosmo’s racism.

To cite just one typical claim making Cosmo out as racist was a Twitter user who cites support of “#BlackLivesMatter” on her bio and who attacked the magazine, saying, “The First Family is Black, no matter how much you might hate this fact.”
What do you think? Is Cosmo out of line for re-assigning the “first family” label to the Kardashians? Is it evidence of racism?
