Americans have grown accustomed to welcoming home loved ones who have been fighting for our freedoms from overseas. This is not the case with Vietnam Vets, however.
When the veterans of the Vietnam War returned home, they didn’t receive the huge “welcome home” party that happens frequently here. They didn’t all come back at once. They came back, often times by themselves, and were greeted with extreme hostility. They were often spat on, called “baby killers” and “war criminals.”
“People were against the war, so they were against us,” a veteran said.
These men, who were simply doing as they were asked to, received an inexcusable disservice for their courage and service to this country.
Regardless of anyone’s position on wars, for or against, these men deserve a heart-warming welcome. And that’s just what they got.
