As the investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding the unexpected — and as yet officially unexplained — death of comic Joan Rivers, people involved in the background of the case are beginning to talk. Some are talking to CNN.
A source close to the probe has reportedly told the news network that the procedure believed to have led to Rivers’ untimely death may have been an unauthorized biopsy on her vocal cords performed by Rivers’ personal physician.
Rivers, 81, was at the clinic for a scheduled endoscopy by another doctor, gastroenterologist Dr. Lawrence Cohen. That procedure, intended to help diagnose her hoarse voice and sore throat, involved the insertion of a camera down her throat.
But it was reportedly her personal doctor — as yet unidentified publicly — who not only stepped in to do something to which Rivers had apparently not given prior consent…but who also snapped a selfie in the procedure room where Rivers was under anesthesia and would soon suffer cardiac arrest.
