In a newly released video, ISIS chronicles Christians in a Syrian village being forced to obey Islamic law or die and promises the same treatment for American Christians.
The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) reports the that the five-minute video entitled “Fight Those Who Do Not Believe In Allah” was posted over the weekend.
According to MEMRI:
The video opens by showing ISIS fighters entering Qaryatayn and marching through its streets. A narrator stresses that after it was “liberated” by ISIS fighters from the “the tyrant’s soldiers [i.e. the army of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad],” shari’a law had returned to the city and its Muslim residents are smiling again.
The narrator says that some of the city’s Christians had chosen to convert to Islam, while others preferred signing the dhimma contract, paying the jizya tax, and living in peace and security in the Islamic Caliphate state. Images are shown of ISIS fighters throwing a cross off the roof of a church and of a church hall destroyed by ISIS.
The Christians who were taken captive and remained in the city had four options:
One, the men could be killed and the women and children could be enslaved. Two, they could be exchanged for prisoners, money, or booty. Three, they could be pardoned, provided they leave the caliphate. Four, they could sign the dhimma contract and pay the jizya.
In the end, he says, “the caliph of Muslims [Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi] displayed kindness and generosity [to the Christians] and agreed to receive their jizya tax and allow them to live under caliphate rule as part of the dhimma contract.” He adds that “the leader of the Muslims” had agreed to give the Christians who fled the city an opportunity to sign the dhimma contract and to return within a month to their homes and fields.
The narrator concludes: “This is a message to all Christians in the East and West, and to the defender of the Cross – America: Convert to Islam and no harm will come to you. If you obey, you will have to pay the jizya poll tax.”

Breitbart is reporting that ISIS fighters killed 12 Syrian Christians, including a 12 year-old-boy who refused to convert to Islam. Christian Aid Mission recounted the brutal incident, which occurred on August 28 near the village of Aleppo in northern Syria. The boy was tortured in front of his father by cutting off his finger tips and then severely beating him. The father, who was responsible for planting 9 churches, was told that the torture would stop, if the man returned to Islam. The Christian leader refused, so he and his son and two other men in the group were crucified.
The other eight in the group were later beheaded, including two women (ages 29 and 33), who were raped first in front a crowd called to watch the executions.
“Villagers said some were praying in the name of Jesus, others said some were praying the Lord’s Prayer, and others said some of them lifted their heads to commend their spirits to Jesus,” the ministry director told Christian Aid. “One of the women looked up and seemed to be almost smiling as she said, ‘Jesus!'”
According to The Gospel World Herald, “In Syria alone, the Christian population has plunged by nearly two-thirds since the country’s civil war started in 2011. In Iraq, the Christian population is teetering on extinction, dwindling from around 1.5 million in 2003 to well below 200,000 now.” While thousands have been killed, many more have fled the nation as refugees.

“It is like going back 1,000 years seeing the barbarity that Christians are having to live under. I think we are dealing with a group which makes Nazism pale in comparison and I think they have lost all respect for human life,” Patrick Sookhdeo, founder of Barnabas Fund, a charity which seeks to help Syrian Christians, told the Daily Express.
