It would seem laughable that a non-nuclear state such as Iran would threaten nuclear armed Israel with a surprise attack but it just happened. Iran supposedly shot down an Israeli drone on its way to the Natanz nuclear site where Israel is concerned Iran is developing a nuclear weapon. “This hostile action is a violation of Iran’s territorial integrity and sovereignty,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham was quoted as saying Monday by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA). Since the shootdown, Iran has threatened Israel with surprise, military action.
This bellicose rhetoric is from the Shia Islamic nation that has repeatedly called for the destruction of the Jewish State of Israel. I have written before that the Obama administration’s appeasement of Iran will cause a nuclear arms race in the Middle East and could even possibly lead to a nuclear war in the region. By any intelligence account, Iran is very close to having a nuclear weapons capability. It is only a matter of time. The Obama administration believes it can contain a nuclear Iran. This threat by Iran against Israel should inject some adult consideration into that opinion. The IRGC, or Iranian Revolutionary Guard Council claimed that it “reserves the right of response and retaliation for itself.”
Perhaps Iran is being more aggressive in threatening Israel because it is closer to developing a nuclear weapon and the missile systems to deliver it. Even an air burst over Israel would cause a catastrophe. Israel of course knows this as well. Perhaps they are considering beating Iran to the punch? At any rate, the Middle East is becoming even more dangerous than usual. What is American policy in the region again?
