Conservative actor James Woods tweeted four simple words to describe those who love President Barack Obama: Children of the Corn.
— James Woods (@RealJamesWoods) November 9, 2015
Woods, known as a prolific actor appearing in numerous movies and television shows including The Way We Were and Citizen Cohn, tweeted the phrase on Nov. 9 to accompany a picture of Obama supporters from 2012. All are smiling women and holding “Forward” signs, mindlessly listening and looking up at Obama as he spoke. Woods also inserted hash tags of #liberal and #tcot. The reference dates back to the 1980s, when the movie Children of the Corn was released. The movie, based on a short story by Stephen King, depicted a cult of children running a town. Its leader was a boy proclaiming to be a messiah. He brainwashes all the other children and convinces them to kill their parents. The children also kill any visitor to town and offers them as a sacrifice to a satanic god. The idea that Woods is proposing is that Obama supporters are following him like they are brainwashed and in a cult. Woods’ tweet got a number of positive responses. It was favorited 988 times and retweeted at least 784 times. One tweeter, Courtney Williamson, responded with her own picture of a group of enthusiastic young people holding signs that said “Fighting for us.” Her tweet said, “And the sequel, Children of the Corn II: The Gathering of Brainwashed Idiots.”

Woods also tweeted on Nov. 9 his criticism of the president’s lack of response to what Woods referred to as Islamic terrorism in capital letters. He also said conservatives must learn to organize a boycott of the liberal media by boycotting what he called “#lapdog #liberal media corporations” and said they would “change their tune overnight” because of money lost.
