Rep. Mo Brooks, R- Ala. asserted Tuesday the recent measles outbreak might be connected to to the porous southern border. Brooks recently argued another contagious disease could be connected to illegal immigration.
There have been 102 confirmed cases of the measles so far in 2015, The Huffington Post reported. More than 1000 people are being monitored for the disease in the state of Arizona alone.
“I don’t think there is any healthcare professional who has examined the facts who could honestly say that Americans have not died because the disease is brought into America by illegal aliens who are not properly healthcare screened as lawful immigrants are,” Brooks told radio host Matt Murphy Tuesday. He continued:
It might be the Enterovirus that has a heavy presence in Central and South America that has caused deaths of American children over the past six to nine months. It might be this measles outbreak… there are any number of things.
Still, the Alabama congressman expressed sympathy for those struck with the measles:
You gotta have sympathy for the illegal alien child that is burdened with this disease, but you also have to do what you can to protect American kids from the suffering and sometimes death associated with this disease.
This is not the first time Brooks linked a disease outbreak to the immigration situation.

He told WHNT in November that “Immigration is a part of Ebola, is a part of this new virus, that is I say ‘new’ in quotation marks because it’s relatively new to the degree we’ve seen it in the United States of America that is taking the lives of American children, that is causing partial or complete paralysis of American children.” Brooks continued:
So we need to focus on the people who refuse to obey our laws, who cross our borders illegally, who undermine the wages of American workers by cutting them, who take jobs from American families that need them, who risk our healthcare with things like Ebola and the enterovirus, who adversely affect our schools over in Decatur [Alabama] right now, because of the president having shipped illegal aliens, children to the Decatur school system, now they’re having to cut back on some of their kindergarten programs because we have limited resources and finances.
So there are a lot of cascading effects, and my position has been very sound in my judgment.
