Photos have emerged on the internet in recent days of General Qasem Suleimani, the leader of the Iranian Quds Force – a hard-line special operations group under the Iranian Revolutionary Guards – leading Iranian forces while they engage ISIS is areas of Iraq that were loyal to former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein. This development highlights an unsettling development in the fight against ISIS—Iranian forces in large number now controlling large areas of Iraq, where U.S. forces died to bring the area under Iraqi government control.
Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen, R-N.J., raised the issue of the Iranians with President Obama’s new defense secretary during a House Appropriations defense subcommittee hearing on Wednesday. “I know we’re keeping our distance physically from them in Baghdad,” Frelinghuysen said. “Have we ceded most of the governance of Iraq to Iranians?…And will the military operations that are undergoing, which we are watching, divide the country and require us in some ways to spend more of our resources?”
The New York Times reports:
American officials, for their part, voiced unease with the prominent role of Iran and its allied Shiite militias in the Tikrit operation. Shiite militia leaders said that their fighters made up more than two-thirds of the pro-government force of 30,000, and that the Iranian spymaster Maj. Gen. Qassim Suleimani was helping to lead from near the front lines.
These revelations come at a time when it is common knowledge the Obama administration is desperate to get a deal with Iran regarding nuclear weapons. It seems that Secretary of State Kerry is willing to give Iran control of Iraqi territory, where thousands of American soldiers died only a short time ago, to burnish his negotiating credentials and further the Islamic agenda of our president—to allow Iran to control the Middle East and threaten our strongest ally in the region, Israel.
Every day, more and more evidence comes out that shows what this administration is up to regarding Iran. Iranian-born Valerie Jarrett seems to be leading the effort to make sure all of our American deaths go to waste. No wonder they were in such a hurry to get American forces out of Iraq.
