Debra Burlingame is the sister of American Airlines Flight 77 pilot Charles “Chic” Burlingame III; Flight 77 was flown into the Pentagon during the September 11, 2001 attacks by Al Qaeda terrorists. Ms. Burlingame in an outspoken critic of Islam who issued a press release in 2010 denouncing President Barack Obama for supporting the “Ground Zero Mosque.” Based on her efforts and others, the International Freedom Center was barred from being located at the World Trade Center site, resulting in the abandonment of the project by its sponsors.
Ms. Burlingame spoke at the Defeat Jihad Summit by the Center for Security Policy on Tuesday, when she commented on President Obama’s remarks in a Vox interview in January.
I watched excerpts from the VOX interview with President Obama in which he was asked, “Do you think that the reaction to all the recent events of terrorist attacks in various places throughout the world – do you think this is an overreaction?” And our president said yes. And he likened the coverage to local news where you have fires, fire coverage and local crime, and he used the phrase, “If it bleeds, it ledes.” And it was at that point that I knew, however much I disagreed with this president on so many issues, it was at that point that I knew that we were really on our own in this fight.

Ms. Burlingame is the founder of 9/11 Families for America.
