If it weren’t for Donald Trump’s highly publicized quip about Rosie O’Donnell during the prime-time presidential debate on Fox News, the foul-mouthed comedian, provocative political blogger and gay rights activist probably wouldn’t be back in the news.
You’ll recall that when debate moderator Megyn Kelly was questioning Trump about his past comments regarding women — comments that some consider disparaging — the billionaire businessman mentioned O’Donnell, with whom he’s had something of a feud in the past. That, plus the candidate’s controversial follow-up remarks about Kelly, apparently turned the spotlight back on for Rosie.
Western Journalism told you how O’Donnell reacted right after the debate to The Donald’s snarky put-down. Now, in typically revolting fashion, she has upped the ante for unpleasantness and spouted off in ways many would no doubt find exceptionally crude and disgusting.

According to CBS News, O’Donnell called in to a satellite radio show to trash Trump and argue that the GOP front-runner is leading a resurgence of the Republicans’ so-called “war on women.”
“Bigger than any specific people, there is a war on women that is happening in this country,” O’Donnell declared, according to the CBS News account of the interview. “Women fought for equality in this country, and right now, politically, it’s being taken away from us.”
The discussion with the friendly radio show host turned to female hormones and menstrual cycles — subjects that Rosie O’Donnell was happy to pursue all the way into decidedly tasteless territory. The CBS report referred to O’Donnell’s comments as “crass jokes.” Others might find different words to describe what O’Donnell said she’d like to do.
“I’d like to take my period blood that I no longer have and write, ‘You’re all a–holes,'” she added. “I’d like to smear it all over some people’s faces.”
Ironically, while it was clear O’Donnell was trying to “smear” Donald Trump and other Republicans, her incredibly crude remarks about “period blood” would seem to support Trump’s contention that he was referring to the crass comedian when Megyn Kelly questioned his past references to women as “fat pigs, dogs, slobs, disgusting animals.”
Prior to the Trump debate comment that gave O’Donnell a new platform from which to lash out at the GOP, the comedian was generating mostly negative headlines for both professional and personal troubles. As the New York Post noted in a Page Six article on July 7:
After calling it quits on a contentious second go-round on ‘The View’ and a nasty breakup with her wife, television hostess Rosie O’Donnell is also splitting with a prime piece of New Jersey real estate. O’Donnell’s rustic mansion in the upscale community of Saddle River is now on the market for $6.98 million.
Apparently, O’Donnell is in need of cash or simply wants to dump her lavish homes in New Jersey and Florida in the wake of her breakup with Michelle Rounds, who is reportedly battling with O’Donnell over custody of their 2-year-old daughter as well as money. Their now-defunct marriage in June of 2012 had been celebrated in the LGBT community.
