A 70-year-old woman recently proved that bravery doesn’t have to fade with age.
Lien Nguyen, the elderly convenience store clerk, was held at gunpoint earlier this month by a delinquent described to police as a 30-year-old black woman who hid her face with a baseball cap.
“‘Give me money. Give me all your money. If not, I shoot you. I kill you,’ and she keep saying that,” Nguyen recalled.

Her response, however, was fearless.
“Honey, I’m 70-year-old already… die today… or tomorrow,” adding, “Honey, you want to shoot me, go ahead to shoot me, okay… You think you kill me and you will have money, you’re wrong.”
The assailant then attacked Nguyen, hitting her in the head and shoulder with the gun. The bruises remained visible days later.
“I told her, ‘You think you do that, but you young,’” Nguyen said. “‘If you get caught, you be in prison for a long time.’”
The offender continued to hit Nguyen, so the brave clerk chose to fight back by grabbing the closest weapon within reach and throwing it at the abusive criminal.
The weapon? A case of beer. Naturally.
At that point, the would-be robber gave up and ran out of the store.

“I really didn’t know what was going on at first, and then I seen that gun and then she took off running,” Tony Garcia, a regular customer who witnessed the incident, explained he unsuccessfully chased after the suspect.
Police were not able to locate the suspect either. Still, Nguyen said there was some good fortune in the incident.
“I’m lucky she didn’t shoot me,” Nguyen said.
