According to Michelle Obama, the frequent and fervent denunciation of her effort to redefine school lunch for America’s children is no indication to its ultimate triumph. Western Journalism has extensively covered the criticism – whether from students, parents, or school administrators – of federal nutrition standards resulting in costly and unappetizing cafeteria fare.
Despite the vocal opposition of these naysayers, Obama explained in a recent interview that she believes students indoctrinated with her nutritional ideals will be left with no choice but to embrace the changes.
“I’m confident that the school lunch changes will eventually be embraced by kids,” she predicted, “because we’re really talking about the kids who are kindergarteners today. If all they know are whole grains and vegetables, by the time they’re graduating from high school, this will be their norm. They won’t know anything different.”

As it stands, however, students across the nation continue to revolt against the new regulations as many post photos of their meager lunches to Twitter and other social media sites. Furthermore, many school districts have decided to opt out of the nutrition program despite the fact that doing so means a reduction in federal funding.
Obama went on to stress the importance of “starting from nursery school” in forcing a government-approved diet onto ostensibly free American kids.
She hypothesized that today’s students will graduate high school “with a whole new set of habits and taste buds,” adding that she hopes they will “become the voices of their generation for how to eat and live and build a quality life.”
