The Association of American Educators maintains ethical standards for the treatment of children by teachers. Under Principle 1, Ethical conduct toward Students, the AAE insists;
1.The professional educator deals considerately and justly with each student, and seeks to resolve problems, including discipline, according to law and school policy. 2. The professional educator does not intentionally expose the student to disparagement. 3. The professional educator does not reveal confidential information concerning students, unless required by law. 4. The professional educator makes a constructive effort to protect the student from conditions detrimental to learning, health, or safety. 5. The professional educator endeavors to present facts without distortion, bias, or personal prejudice.
It appears that after a careful investigation, CJ Pearson’s sixth grade teacher may have broken several of these key principles. Pearson, most known for his video blogs that receive national attention, is now in the eighth grade. But that didn’t stop his sixth grade teacher from discussing how she felt about him with her sixth grade students.
Pearson’s friends approached him and said that his former teacher had told her current class that “Pearson had once passed around vocabulary words prior to a test, and that the boy thought he was “all that and a bag of chips” and was “not worth saving in a fire.”

The school, to their credit, when informed of the statements, began a careful investigation of the allegations made public on social media. Columbia Middle School principal Eli Putnam issued a statement that said: “Columbia Middle School believes all students should be taught in a safe and positive environment. Accordingly, if the claims are substantiated we will handle the issue as a personnel matter.”

The school did conduct their internal investigation by interviewing all of the students present in the classroom when the comments were made. Some of the statements made by the teacher were corroborated by the some of the students.
In light of the professional educator standards, it appears as though the sixth grade teacher revealed private information about Pearson to other students, made disparaging comments about him, and did not have his best interest in mind when making those comments; and all of that was certainly against school policy. However, no disciplinary action has been reported to the media at this time.
For his part, Pearson said: “It’s always great having a teacher that’s not only a liberal bully, but someone who engages in slander.”
