As early as Wednesday, President Obama could issue an executive order granting the federal government expansive and unprecedented power over one of the few remaining outposts of uncensored information — the Internet.
Various news agencies are reporting that a cybersecurity executive order has been drafted and will be issued by the president this week. A story on NextWeb indicates that the president will address the issue (and announce the executive order) in Tuesday’s State of the Union address.
Bloomberg adds credibility to the speculation, quoting “two former White House officials briefed on the administration’s plans” who corroborate the Wednesday release date for the executive order.
The Wall Street Journal reports that unnamed White House officials disclosed that the order will indeed be issued Wednesday and that it “would create a federal-government led group to work with the private sector to create and implement voluntary standards for companies running critical infrastructure. It would also take additional measures to improve information sharing and bolster cybersecurity through current regulatory authorities.”
Voluntary is a word — like so many others — that doesn’t have the same meaning in Washington, D.C., as it does in the rest of the country.

Obama is abusing his executive orders. The original purpose of the executive order was for war time or other emergencies, when there just wasn’t time to go through Congress.
As long as ole comrade reid is the senates power boy, obama will get by doing anything he wants…..and no one will do a damn thing about it…….check out the house, whimps.

I received a bunch of new “security updates” from Microsoft today. Coincidence? I think not.
And, all executive orders are outside the Constitutional boundaries placed on the executive branch. There is no provision in the Constitution for the president to go around Congress, emergency or not. Congress declares war, not the president, and authorizes him to be commander in chief; then he steps down as CIC when the mission is completed. Congress deals with emergencies, not the president. Congress is the power in our government because they are the people’s representatives; not the president. All executive orders are illegal and do not carry the force of law. But the law never stopped obama before so why would it now…
“We the People” demand that our federal government return to the rule of law as established by the United States Constitution!
The First and Second Amendments enshrine liberties that are worth fighting for!
++Sadly, the Constitution is seen as an outdated, cumbersome, unnecessary obstacle to those pushing a leftist agenda.
It’s hard to tell if our leftist, “progressive” legislators’ lack of constitutional understanding comes from ignorance or sheer disdain for the law. In either case, it’s a sad commentary about those who we, as citizens, have placed in office.
Nonetheless, our President, who says he wants to “fundamentally transform our nation,” knows that the biggest obstacle to him grabbing power and achieving unprecedented radicalization in our nation is the Constitution of the United States of America.
The Constitution is the founding document that clearly defines the balance of power and rule of law in our nation.
Perhaps most importantly, the Constitution severely limits the power of any element of the civil government to exercise tyrannical power, which has made it extremely difficult for tyranny to arise in America. Tragically, it is happening in our generation.
Obama if you are reading this through your new cyber security I want you to know from me personally you can, Check me out, have fun with that, use your executive orders until you can’t any more. You are another Hitler. You have taken every step to ensure you rule like the socialist you are. To top it all off you are a Kenyan born self appointed King and in no way will I ever endorse anything you do and certainly not believe anything you say. You do not belong in the White House. And to think I used to call myself a Democrat.
Good post Dbrown. The Internet is a venue for free speech….unencumberd, unfettered and uncensored. We, the American people have not only the right, but the obligation to express our opinions whether they agree or disagree with the thug who calls himself the president in Washington. Openess is as American as apple pie. Will we be forced to establish private political clubs? Sure sounds like it…..very third world, draconian and NOT FREE. I have six words for all of this: IMPEACH NOW WHILE WE STILL CAN.
