Will Obama Risk Democrats’ Senate Control To Attend The Wedding Of This Hollywood A-Lister?

Where? At "a popular retreat for aristocrats and wealthy people since Roman times..."

It’s certainly no secret that Barack Obama likes to rub elbows with the rich and famous, especially with Hollywood types whose rarified celebrity could be seen as feeding the president’s ego. It’s also certain that Obama loves to get way from the White House, jetting off to some expensive vacation destination or to another round of golf whenever possible.

So it comes as no surprise to see reports circulating that President Obama could well be a top-line guest at the upcoming wedding of actor and activist George Clooney, whom Obama has described as a friend and a “wonderful guy.” Clooney, it’s reported:

…will soon be sending out invites to his wedding, which is expected to happen in September in the vicinity of Lake Como, where he owns a posh villa — a $25 million affair that’s likely to play out on the tastefully refined pages of Vogue.

And among those invitations, we hear, will be one to the President of the United States. But where, pray tell, is Lake Como, the site of Clooney’s scheduled marriage to fiancée Amal Alamuddin? Turns out Lake Como is in Italy — a spectacular spot described on Wikipedia as:

…a popular retreat for aristocrats and wealthy people since Roman times, and a very popular tourist attraction with many artistic and cultural gems. It has many villas and palaces….

So would the president really consider taking Air Force One all the way to Italy for the Clooney-Alamuddin nuptials. Does Obama really need the kind of media scrutiny and likely criticism that would result? Or…would he even care?

It is widely reported that Obama is slated to attend the wedding of MSNBC host Alex Wagner and White House special adviser Sam Kass on Saturday in New Rochelle, New York; but that destination is clearly much closer to Washington, D.C. than the Clooney affair would be.

Still, at least one online celeb site is saying that the president will be among the distinguished guests in Lake Como in September. Radaronline.com tells us that actress Jennifer Aniston was unsure about attending Clooney’s wedding because:

…she’s not big on schmoozing at Hollywood get-togethers. But she quickly changed her mind after George told her that President Obama RSVP’d “Yes!”

And if President Obama does show up at the grand affair at the Italian lake for the rich and famous only a few weeks before the 2014 mid-terms…if POTUS does put in a much-publicized appearance, it just might be the embattled Democrats running for re-election to the Senate who would feel most like “divorcing” the Partier-in-Chief.
