WASHINGTON (OfficialWire) — The White House is pushing back against questions about whether President Barack Obama’s health care law would mean new taxes for many people.
A day after the Supreme Court upheld the law, White House press secretary Jay Carney says the law will create a “penalty” that will affect about 1 percent of those who refuse to get health insurance.
He says the penalty was modeled after the one put in place in Massachusetts when Republican Mitt Romney was governor. Romney is now Obama’s presidential challenger.

This is why justices should not be legilating from the bench and determining what is a penalty and what is a tax. The law states it is a penalty which is unconstitutional (as stated in the first part of the decision). Since the white house insists it signed a penalty law, it is unconstitutional. Do Not Comply! TERM LIMITS FOR JUSTICES!
Agree 100%
Thank you Mr. Obama for your recent apology about lying to the American people, about ObamaCare, its costs and the taxes you have imposed on the people.
Many demands were made by the press for Bush to apologize but you showed them that unlike Bush
you have the guts to stand up and claim credit for your lies and failures.
You are truly one of a kind.
It was so refreshing to hear an American president apologize to others than foreign nations and foreign leaders.
It was so wonderful to hear you claim it was necessary for the good of the stupid people who do not understand your genius and all the good you are doing for them.
I totally agree that the financial problems you have created for the next generation of Americans is not our problem to worry about. We won’t be around to suffer because of it. It is their problem, not ours.
It was unbelievable how you showed them the way to total destruction and made them follow like sheep. Your genius to take full advantage of your right to lie is unmatched anywhere else in the world.
Who could ever have manipulated two matching SCOTUS decisions like you.
You can do what you want when you call it a tax and you cal lie about it all you want because SCOTUS has protected your right to lie.
You are truly amazing and I hope that the American people realize this in November.
May Allah go with you.
Where have the liberal press and politicians been in demanding an apology from Obama for lying to the American people? Bush has been wondering why Obama appears to be exempt.
Mr. Carney, don’t you ralize that the US Supreme Court has defined you (and Obama) as a liar?
What part of the SCOTUS ruling that it is a tax do you not understand?
Do you really believe that the people are so stupid as to believe you and Obama again on the “it is not a tax” issue?
I am amazed that Obama can find people like you who are willing to look like total idiots and lie to the US citizens when every single one (even the Obama supporters) know that you are lying.
You have that job not because of your competence but because most people have higher integrity levels and are, unlike you, unwilling to deceive other Americans with blatant lies.
Pay attention now! There will be a test! It states in the more than 2,700 pages of the Patient Protection Affordable Care Act, (PPACA) also known as Obominationcare, that “This tax is not a tax.” If the law states so clearly that the tax is not a tax, then of course, it is not a tax. They hadn’t yet decided what to call the tax that is not a tax, but have since decided it is a penalty.
At first, the tax that is not a tax was called a fine, but seemed a bit too harsh, so now it is a penalty. Keep your dictionary and Thesaurus handy, it may yet again change.
Peace,
Robert Walker
Split those hairs, White House! That will save you…NOT!
