MARION — Joan Stevens was one of several early voters at the polls on Monday. But when Stevens tried to cast her ballot for president, she noticed a problem.
Upon selecting “Mitt Romney” on the electronic touch screen, Barack Obama’s name lit up.
It took Stevens three tries before her selection was accurately recorded.
“You want to vote for who you want to vote for, and when you can’t it’s irritating,” Stevens said.

I’m not surprise by the machines being rigged. We’ve seen some of this around here too. You must watch very closely to be sure how your vote is registered. There are Obama supporters out there that will do anything, legal and illegal, to attempt giving Obama a lead whether he deserves it or not. I’ve never seen an election like this one and I’ve voted since JFK. In this one, Obama supporters are determined to force Americans to vote their way by whatever methods are required. It seems truth or policy don’t matter, only the fact that Obama is half black is all they see and that has made them supporters to a rabid level. They’re almost foaming at the mouth with Obama Rabies.
I was horrified when my late wife Marilyn voted in New York. The machines seemed so old and obviously short of an audit trail that was evident as to the veracity of the count. You pull a lever and you hope you have voted! The problem remains with computer aided voting it can be tampered with easily there is no obvious audit trail either. Now we have PCs which set up the voted and you have little certainty that the vote is secure. Machines that put the president’s name in before you even set up for the vote, this is outrageous. You need as a minimum the following:-
1. There is a dire need for a single national voting law that extirpates the pcs from the vote process.
2. You need a paper ballot nothing less and nothing more. I don’t have a problem with machines to count the ballots so long as they are marked by hand. In the event a recall is called you can still count by hand with party observers as we do in the UK.
3. All voters must be on the voting roll for their jurisdiction with a serial number and bar code in advance of the election. If this means many fail to vote they clearly don’t care enough to vote so there is no problem with them not voting it is a simple civil duty and choice.
4. Ballot papers should be serial numbered and matched with the voter’s serial number. We do this in the UK to prevent fraud. Yes it makes the ballot not absolutely secret but in practice secrecy is maintained. Access to the information about balloting should only be by court order from a superior court judge.
5. Spoiled ballots should be eliminated none of the hanging chad nonsense. Failure to mark the appropriate location on the ballot is a spoiled ballot.
6. Abstentions should be recorded as a choice in on the ballot.
7. Identity cards should be included in the voter’s card sent to the voter prior to the election. It should be mandatory for all jurisdictions to send voters a card akin to a credit card with ID photo included. These cards should be reissued every 10 years to cover for ID image changes.
8. At the poll the poll workers should be able to swipe the card and issue a ballot including the voters ballot bar code and the ballot paper serial number. It would be reasonable to code the numbers in a protected block image rather than just print them. Thus the numbers could be verifiable only by gazetted officials and returning officers at the election or at the board of election.
For a nation as large as the US it should be paramount that elections be above reproach. The left more than any other group have nothing but contempt for elections they have a tradition of packed ballot boxes and their candidates winning by 80% plus. Just look at the history of elections in communist countries. Not to say that the odd statist republicans aren’t tempted to fraud the ballot. My suggestions would obviate most of that, making elections honest and largely free of dispute.
In the final analysis if there is mass ballot stuffing the matter should go to court to declare the election moot and call a bye-election and run it all over again. This should keep the majority of the tempted to stay their hands from fraud.
It took her three times for the machine to get her vote right? But Did it really get it right or did it just say it did?
Hmm, I wonder why no votes are accidentally going to Romney and the error only benefits Obama?
