After ponying up a $100 fee for the ability to raise money for the nationwide Wounded Warrior Project, staff members of Liberty Baptist Church and Academy in Florida were stunned to receive an email declining their effort.
Claiming the group could not accept donations from the fundraiser described as “religious in nature,” the WWP passed up funding needed to provide outreach services as well as the chance for students in the school to feel the joy of helping out the organization.
The church’s pastor said everyone involved was “heartbroken,” noting fundraising organizers “had to tell our children and parents we can’t give to the Wounded Warrior Project.”
He said the incident has made them feel like “second-class citizens now because we are people of faith.”
The news came as such a shock that the school secretary contacted the non-profit organization to make sure the original email was accurate. To the dismay of those hoping to donate, including about 460 students in the academy, a WWP representative upheld the group’s previous refusal to accept any proceeds.
According to the pastor, organizers expected to collect up to $50,000 for the group, noting he was forced to break the news to his congregation in “one of the saddest letters I have ever had to write.”
One sixth-grade teacher said her class was so anxious to give to the cause many had already forfeited their lunch money, adding one class had raised $400 before the fundraiser had even officially begun.
Sadly, we will never know how successful this effort would have been since, as the pastor explained in his letter to congregants and parents, “we … are being discriminated against.”
All money already donated was returned to the donors, he said; and the search continues for another veterans organization – hopefully one that would actually accept the generous donations of selfless students.
WWP refunded the church’s registration fee, effectively ending any relationship between the two entities; and parents say they are left with the unenviable task of explaining the situation to their children.
“We teach that our country was founded for religious freedom,” one parent said. “and then to find out that we couldn’t even support the Wounded Warriors because we are Christians – it was hard to explain to them.”
With so many charities already firmly in the leftist camp, it is extremely disappointing that a veterans services group would join them in derision toward faith-based donors.

That does it ! no more money to the WWP
same here.
Although I am myself an agnostic, I still believe in religious freedom, and I will not be sending WWP any money if this is the stance they are taking.
I can’t understand why non-believers take so many pains to eliminate what they claim doesn’t exist. Personally, I do not try to cram my religious beliefs down anyone else’s throat. I wasn’t called to be a Minister or an Evangelist so I don’t try to act the role.
Live and let live and the truth will become evident at the End.
Our world, however, suffers mightily as competing groups seek to prove they are the ONLY “right” one and the world is in the midst of a global religious war right now know it or not. It will only get worse, is cannot get better.
Larrymac, you could be my neighbor and we would get along very well because neither of us seeks to RULE the other.
Too bad that politics and religion can’t operate under the same guidelines of live and let live. What a boring and peaceful place the world would be.
That is so wrong. Shame on WWP!
I gave to Disabled Veterans instead.
WWP did something else earlier..in 2012 that caused me to not give to them. I cannot remember what it is at the moment…but that organization must be run by some progressives, on the left. So Do NOT send them money. I remember that it had something to do with a Country Western singer and people were trying to tell him what was going on….anyone else remember?
Disabled Veterans will be happy to take the money from the church and school.
I have a request for a donation on my desk right now. I’ve given $$$ many times BUT NO MORE.You no likie Christian coolies ; I no likie you anymore. What a phony organization. It did bother me at the massive amt. of $$$ they spend on TV commercials .WWP No mo money fer you’all
Polititions start wars but the peons fight them. All the kids that were killed iand maimed in Iraq and Afganistan was just a way to keep war contractors in business. They accomplished nothing to make the world a better place to live for anyone. Those people just can`t get along with each other. Iraq is not much better under Saddam. We will leave Afganistan like we did in Viet-Nam and the country will go back ot the way it was. People keep your kids at home. Better to be a burger flipper here then spend the rest of your life with no legs. We used to call you cannon fodder. You still are. Polititions care less about anyone in the military. If your shot up or killed absolutely no-one in Washington cares.
As for wounded warriors please quit wasting my electricity with your phony ad`s.
Viking…President Eisenhower, in one of his last speeches said, “Beware of the Military Industrial Complex”. You are correct. We are not in any country to fight for freedom. We are there to keep money in the pockets of the Industrial Military complex. Their answer is…We are employing thousands of people.
That is on the conscience of each individual who will work there.
But that still should not keep us from helping the soldiers who have come home. Just do not use WWP. Use another that has been around for a while. AND make sure most of the money donated is going to the Vets…not the administration.
Also those that are in the Industrial Military Complex are building prisons for profit, here in the USA. Those mercenaries are also running those prisons. Can you imagine how hard it must be to live in one of those, when you do not have the same government rules to protect you? So you better keep your nose clean in the USA now.
If the money from Christian school children isn’t good enough for the WWP, either is mine. Next time they ask me for a donation, I will tell them I am fresh out of Monopoly Money and tell them why. This makes me wonder just how much of each dollar actually goes to the intended recipient.
If they are so selfless they could donate any money they collected as private citizens. The fact that they aren’t willing to do that just proves that the action of raising money to donate is contingent on them getting attention as a church group, therefore not a selfless act. Doing good deeds as Christians isn’t supposed to be about accolades and hoopla, it is supposed to be about doing good deeds and helping people in need.
actually, the school had paid the $100.00 registration fee so that they could put the name and logo of WWP on the flyers and information packets for the fundraiser so that everyone knew exactly WHO THEY were donating to according to the WWP requirements, it had nothing to do with attention or publicity for the school or church. The school was only doing what anyone else trying to run a fund raiser would do,
Would you yourself donate to a fundraiser that would not tell you who they were giving your money too or being able show you any paperwork to verify that you were in fact donating to the charity???
The WWP did not state on their website that they could not allow religious in nature groups run a fund raiser, they admited to having them on a banned list but that list would not be updated until possibly spring.
this while thing was not about a church deciding to make a donation to bolster themselves, it was about a christian school trying to do a fundraiser to help WWP but also teach the students about patriatism, giving, love and helping! Don’t groups all the time do fund raisers? why would a christian school be any different ?
I think maybe you need lessons in reading. I didn’t see any where it said they did this for publicity!! They spent the money on brochures to tell people who they were contributing to. The students were excited about it, but I doubt it will happen again because of the bad taste left in their mouth by this act! The WWP just lost my support! I contacted them and they gave me some cock-n-bull story that this group didn’t meet their criteria! If you are truly there to help, why do you need a criteria…one that excludes religious groups especially?
Wounded warrior project did something similar to orginaziations that support the second amendment, this time they would take the money as long as the wounded warrior project was not mentioned in their advertisement. enthough the fund raiser was being held to raise money fore the WWP.i quit supporting that orginization at that point. There are other orginaziations who help warriors I will support them.
What is a reformed druid?
How do you know they contacted the press? How can you assume they did? Do you know what assume means? I learned in the police academy that assume spells “making an ass out of you and me.” Don’t assume. Get the facts before you write.
The children probably went home, and complained to their parents. One of those parents probably contacted the press. Don’t blame it on the whole group.
And…the world needs to know about the corrupt WWP. So that they will not give to that ponzi scheme.
The DAV, VFW and American Legion ALL have projects that help wounded and disabled vets. Contact THEM.
I know nothing about the WWP but IF this is true then I don’t want to know anything about them either.
I’ll never give another penny to them and I will make sure my mother doesn’t either. Next time I get a request in the mail I am writing on it I am Catholic you don’t want my money.
I am actually stunned about this. My husband and I were looking for a good cause this year and maybe going forward with it in possible future years. We decided to pledge $250 a month which made us feel it could go a long way for these veterans. We are also christians. To deny their donation is gigantic for us. We’re totally going to rethink this.
check out fisher house instead!
Here’s why they will not accept the donations –
John 15:13 – Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. (This is the fundraising Christians) but, verses 18 & 19 clear up the confusion –
18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. (Their leadership is ofthis world)
Sad really!
The reason WWP cannot accept donations from Christian organizations is because that is the veteran program that michelle obama claims to support and does TV commercials. I wouldn’t support any organizations the obama’s truly support. Many links to prove if you google it!

This is the islamic communist government regime with it’s New Government Jobs of Communist and islamic Workers of the World UN fiends that will do anything against Christians and also prevent any help for OUR SOLDIERS, which are the enemies too of this regime of islamic communists! Give to other REAL AMERICAN PEOPLE Charities, not anything that the money only really goes to the government with maybe pennies to OUR SOLDIERS IN NEED.
The V.F.W. Should refuses WWP as a Organization and its donations. And all the Donner’s should Donate strata to the V.F.W…
I had tried to respond to a couple of you on the WWP facebook page,
I had repsonsed to quite a few comments, resposting what the were cutting and pasting to others. I made a post that said:
The WWP does accpet PRIVATE DONATIONS from churches, they just will NOT ALLOW PUBLIC FUNDRAISERS by these same churches. I had also stated on another post that the WWP needed to stop playing with thier words and be honest about their call to the church and the fact that they had actually told the church “they were sorry it came to this but that they would MAKE AN EXCEPTION THIS TIME” and allow thw church to go ahead and donate the money ( UMMM, that isn’t going to happen!) I had also suggested that some others should check out Fisher House as an alternative so that the soldiers were not the ones to be hurt by this!
ALL OF MY POSTS AND COMMENTS HAVE BEEN DELETED and I have been BANNED from posting or responding to anything on their site!
also, they are staing that 85% goes to their “programs” 35% of that goes to FUNDRAISING alone!
WWP just does not want to have the truth be typed on their facebook page!
Word games when it’s the suffering soldier who pays the price? WWP needs to get its act together and make it absolutely clear what donations they will accept and which not and WHY. And do it up front.
There seems to be a lot of confusion and WWP is the cause of it all. Instead of deleting posts and sweeping things aside they need to step up and resolve this. IF they are legit.
You are absolutely right!! I am not the only one who has been deleted and banned, there were a few of us really speaking out and questioning them on their words! they are now trying to say that the school did not “fufill” all of the requirements, however, at the time the school sent in the required fee and registration, they had followed EVERY rule stated on the WWP’s website! ( tthey have now changed things on the site!)
If Michelle Obama backs it..it must be corrupt. And they did something else this past year that turned me against them. Cannot remember what now…old timer’s disease…
I saw a commercial for them tonight during the Super Bowl. I said..NO WAY are they getting money from me.
I gave to the Disabled Veterans this past year.
I think your talking about them and something about them being against gun ownership? I saw a few post about them refusing to do an iterview because the station is a support of gun rights, and they wont allow any groups associated with guns or hunting to do anything with WWP?
LOL, WOW my spelling is way off tonight lol
That is it! Can you believe…War Heroes…no guns….you KNOW it must be controlled by the Left!
Revelations speaks of those who do not have the mark of the beast not being allowed to buy or sell anything in the last days. Satan will have control and only his people who have received the “mark of the beast” will be allowed to spend money . Christians have been persecuted since Christianity came into existence with the birth of Christ. It will continue to get worse! God will bring us through! We must stick together and keep the faith. There are many places where money or other donations are accepted.
If this is true, I’m calling Bill O’Reilly. My annual charity will definitely NOT be WWP, I’m sure there will be some other like a local VA group that will take my money.
Another organization that is supposed to be dedicated to helping Veterans goes “politically correct” denying help for the Veterans they are supposed to care more about than personal gain or anything else.
I’ll be passing this on to all of my motorcycle buddies who have made rides to benefit WWP in the past. Not sure how they’ll react. I know what my reaction is,. MY fundraising for WWP was based on my Christian faith, and that I am a disabled combat Veteran. SO if I’m thinking like a Christian when I’m working for WWP my money and efforts aren’t acceptable to them either.
I wonder what would happen if a Muslim organization gave to them?
In the the Bible… when GOD ask Moses along with his Brother Aaron to go to Egypt and bring his people home… but the Pharoah wouldn’t let the Jews leave… he kept them as slaves… but Moses did something for him to he could get his people back home… the Evil Pharoah said they could go.. but later God heartened his heart so wouldnt let them go… it took 350 years to get them back home… So the Veteran Organizations remind me of the Evil Pharoah….
Gee, they could have used it against the head dude’s $250k + salary.
LOL actually the “head dude” gets almost $350,00 a year
they have done a lot more deleting of posts today and banned any one who is speaking out against them, all the really want showing is their pittiful excuse of oh it was a mistake, they didnt follow our guidelines!
We give to Paralized Veterans….I will not give to WWP….and I am passing the word to everyone I know!!
I find this difficult to believe. In any case, Wounded Warriors is making a big mistake. If they accept only money from the Left. The Left will own them.
In fact, they already own them. They are telling them who than can and cannot accept money from.
