In Washington, bigwigs can misspeak and misstep a million times without drawing attention. And then there are the seemingly harmless moments that stick to a person like super glue: Joe Wilson barking “You lie!”; Jesse Jackson mumbling into a hot mic that he wants to castrate Barack Obama; Dan Quayle trying to spell things.
Like coal crushed into diamonds by the pressure of a million eyeballs, such moments are forever.
During an exclusive dinner hosted Monday by the Alfalfa Club, Obama adviser Valerie Jarret had just such a moment. And were it not for an irritated tipster, Jarret might have walked away from the dinner unblemished.
According to our tipster, Jarrett was seated at the head table along with several other big-name politicians and a handful of high-ranking military officials. As an officer sporting several stars walked past Jarrett, she signaled for his attention and said, “I’d like another glass of wine.”
Garçon!
White House economic adviser Austan Goolsbee, who was seated next to Jarret, began “cracking up nervously,” our tipster said, but no one pointed out to Jarrett that the man sporting a chestful of medals was not her waiter.

Like DON, I am also USN Retired. If I would have been the general, I wouldn't have strangled, but would have said, "as you wish mamm", gone and got a full chilled bottle and dumped it all over her worthless, uguly black ass.
No, strangling isn't the military way; now blowing her up, I could picture. But I think Larry got it right, It seems this whole bunch goes out of their ways to be insulting to military personnel at all levels; she might be forgiven for not recognizing the specific RANK, but there's NO WAY you mistake a ranking officer, even in mess dress, for a WAITER; I've NEVER seen a waiter wearing a single medal or campaign ribbon of any sort, and I've been around some fairly classy restaurants too. But Obama with his deliberate mispronunciation of "corpsman" repeatedly, Boxer with her "that's SENATOR, not Ma'am", this seems right in line with the bunch! I was white shoe Navy, but hung out a lot around Marines.

that should have been a tip to the general that he might be on the wrong team. the obama administration looks at the military as a necessary evil and mostly right wing extremists. i would advise the general to talk to mccrystal about obama's rules of engagement which cost countless american soldiers lives.
Just to set the record straight:
Dan Quayle was handed a paper by the principal of the school that said "POTATOE" on it. He told the student to spell the word and was confused because it was spelled wrong on the paper. It was a setup by a member of the Teachers' Union. They torpedoed him!

As much as I Respect the General, it was a mistake, and the issue here is confusing a Waiter with a General, both have very difficult jobs.
Sounds like the Clinton administration. I believe that military staff at the WH were told to not wear uniforms. Don't worry the military has long memory. Some day, some where, Jarret or somebody the admin will need a favor and the military will remember. Nothing you an prove, "but OOPS where did that bus come?" There's note in a file somewhere, some Sgt loses a piece of paper, it may take 20 years and 10,000 miles away, but what goes around comes around. There a train of connections that goes back GW, take my word for it
