U.S. Should Consider Automatic Voter Registration: Holder

Eric Holder 10 SC U.S. Should Consider Automatic Voter Registration: Holder

The U.S. should consider automatically registering eligible voters and extending voting hours to counter the November election’s long lines and administrative hurdles, Attorney General Eric Holder said.

Holder, speaking today at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library in Boston, proposed expanding access for voters and overhauling a registration system he called “antiquated.”

“It is important for national leaders, academic experts, and members of the public to engage in a frank, thorough and inclusive discussion about how our election systems can be made stronger and more accessible,” Holder said in prepared remarks.

President Barack Obama called for changes on election night after voters in states including Florida and Virginia waited for hours to cast ballots. Obama, while thanking voters who stood in line “for a very long time,” added, “By the way, we have to fix that.”

Lawmakers and interest groups have responded with proposals and hearings, though legislative changes haven’t made headway in the Congress.

  1. Eric ‘cutthroat’ Holder(man) and obozo don’t want to make voting easier for Americans. They just want to make it easer for their illegal supporters to vote for them so they can stay in power forever.

  2. Just go ahead and eliminate voting,it doesn’t matter anyway! Those pigs will always do it their way! A REAL decent human being will NEVER be actually elected in this country ever again!
The communist will always buy their way in or force it one way or the other. We’ve let them take complete charge of everything for far too long!

  3. Holder continues to just piss me off. HOW ABOUT SHOWING YOUR DRIVERS LICENSE OR IDENTIFICATION CARD. THAT’S ALL THAT’S NEEDED YOU FRIGGIN’ IDIOT. YOU’RE MACHINES BREAK AND ARE UNRELIABLE. Does it not make you wonder just how many people voted for obama that wasn’t legal to vote. I’m betting thousands.

  4. FIRST PLACE–problem with Fla’s long lines–an important election such as this should NOT have been bogged down with 12 Constitutional Amendments to make changes to Fla.’s Constitution. Most voters went into booth having little or no information on these amendments and it caused more time in voting booths than normally have been necessary just to fill out the ballot for electors. We have a legislature to VOTE and pass legislation–there is NO reason for political interests to push Amendments, especially this many every time a presidential election comes up. VOTE DAY used to be ONE DAY–there is NO reason to continue to drag out election past a week–it’s TIME FOR AMERICANS TO PLAY BY A SET OF RULES–ONE WEEK TO VOTE EARLY, and the normal election day hours–IF you can’t go by the rules–YOU DON’T NEED TO VOTE.
