Tweet About Illegal Aliens Or Oil Drilling? Obama Is Watching You

The Obama administration is using fake FaceBook and Twitter accounts to monitor anyone who mentions such mundane political issues as illegal immigration, oil drilling, or even the word “recovery.” The newest invasion of conservatives’ privacy comes courtesy of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Rob Waugh of the UK Daily Mail reports:

The DHS outlined plans to scans blogs, Twitter and Facebook for words such as ‘illegal immigrant’, ‘outbreak’, ‘drill’, ‘strain’, ‘virus’, ‘recovery’, ‘deaths’, ‘collapse’, ‘human to animal’ and ‘trojan’, according to an ‘impact asssessment’ document filed by the agency.

When its search tools net an account using the phrases, they record personal information.

It’s still not clear how this information is used – and who the DHS shares it with.

The president and DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano seem interested in assuring no one finds out, either. The Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC), which promotes online privacy, states the Obama administration is stonewalling its Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request about the program. (Perhaps Obama’s bureaucrats learned their lesson. In June, EPIC received e-mails from administration officials proving that the Obama administration lied about the safety of airport scanners.)

Sen. Rand Paul, R-KY, revealed some guidelines for identifying potential terrorists include anyone who has more than seven days of food in his home, anyone who is missing fingers, and anyone who possesses multiple firearms or weather-proof ammunition. This category is so broad it would include extreme couponers and hunters.

However, Obama tends to cast his political opponents as would-be terrorists and mass murderers. Last August, DHS and FBI officials were subjected to a joint training session on terrorism conducted by Planned Parenthood, the National Abortion Federation and the Feminist Majority Foundation, stating that pro-life activists were terrorists. The meeting produced three pages of websites for the feds to monitor, including the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), National Right to Life, Concerned Women for America, the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform, Priests for Life, and dozens more.

This builds on an April 2009 report issued by the DHS (Department of Hopeless Seculation) entitled, “Rightwing [sic.] Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment.” That political manifesto concluded “groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration” are “the most dangerous domestic terrorism threat in the United States.” It warns officers to watch for “Disgruntled Military Veterans.”

The Obama administration/campaign — the two are indistinguishable — launched Flag@WhiteHouse.gov, then the Attack Watch website, before coming up with a new plan to collect Republicans’ e-mail addresses as a “joke” this fall.

In fact, members of the Department of Homeland Security have regularly visited this website.

No administration in history has been so thorough about using false pretexts to gather extensive, private information about its political opponents. Why does he want reams of private data? What does Obama intend to do with that information? Who else sees it?

Mr. President, America deserves to know. Since I have a reasonable belief your administration is monitoring my writing, consider this my FOIA request.
