WASHINGTON (Official Wire) — President Barack Obama’s top Democratic allies in the Senate advised him Friday to consider “any lawful steps” to make sure the government does not default of its debts and spur an economic crisis — even if it means acting without approval by Congress.
Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., is among those urging Obama to consider options like invoking the 14th Amendment to the Constitution to find ways around the $16.4 trillion legal cap on government borrowing. The amendment states that the “validity of the public debt of the United States … shall not be questioned,” which some lawmakers believe permits a way out of the debt limit jam.
The government hit the debt limit last month and is juggling the books to buy additional time for Congress to act. But those moves only buy a few weeks of wiggle room, which requires Congress to act — likely by mid- to late-February — to avoid a market-quaking default on U.S. obligations.
The White House has said emphatically that it does not believe that the 14th Amendment permits Obama to ignore the debt cap on U.S. borrowing, though it considered the question during the 2011 debt crisis.
“There is no Plan B. There is no backup plan,” White House spokesman Jay Carney said Wednesday. “There is no alternative to Congress raising the debt ceiling.”

If Harry Reid bothered to read much less follow the CONSTITUTION he would know that all “Spending Bills” must originate in the House of Representatives per Article 1 Sec. 7 as follows:
“All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.”
This is because the “House of Representatives” is the “Peoples House” the great unwashed in Harry’s view since the “people” must, I repeat must pay the taxes from these spending bills so they have Constitutionally been given the “purse strings.” I wonder if Harry would be so bold if it was not for the fact of the 17th Amendment; where he was subject to recall as the State Legislature saw fit if not for this Amendment. I digress; what Reid has proposed is blatantly unconstitutional as he cannot in anyway shape or form has the authority to propose much less act on such folly.
What in effect he himself has done is refuse to bring a Constitutionally and Legislatively mandated yearly budget to the floor of the Senate for 4 years and allowed unbridled spending to continue without any reconciling or reconciliation on these wasted funds. Now in a Democratic inspired ILLEGAL SCHEME to defraud the American people of any say whatsoever in the amount of money our government is to waste we are just to be relegated to ATM Cash Machines to be exploited without any recourse by Obama and his democrat minions.
What he is REALLY saying and demonstrating is that Democrats will not negotiate in any manner whatsoever in the coming showdown on the “Debt Ceiling” and the Peons (us) must pay any taxes that they dictate for the wasted funds we have no say in the first place.
We fought a WAR of Independence over just such an issue with the slogan “No Taxation Without Representation” in 1776 it appears we have come full circle, and it is time to march on Washington this time…!
