People: perhaps you’ve not heard . . . there’s a whole lot more to Benghazi than the lie that a provocative video sparked a spontaneous demonstration.
Today, we hear people say we now have the smoking gun in the Benghazi scandal: an email from White House staffer Ben Rhodes admitting the spontaneous demonstration explanation was a fiction floated to save Obama’s re-election prospects.
OK, so we have confirmation that several people including the President, the U.N. ambassador, and the Secretary of State (HRC) all conspired to lie to the American people about every aspect of the Benghazi atrocity.
But we already knew Obama lied. We already knew he abandoned four Americans, leaving them to die. We already knew his entire administration engaged in a massive cover-up to salvage re-election. We have seen and heard testimony from the people involved that night, those desperate to send aid to a handful of people fighting valiantly against all odds while the ‘Commander in Chief’ dined on carefully prepared delicacies, preparing for a fundraiser in Las Vegas.
We already knew he allowed Americans to die because his own political future was at stake. But now we also know he allowed those people to die to cover up his criminal activity: sending Libyan weapons to Syria with the help of the Turks to arm Al Qaeda.
Essentially, Obama and Hillary were gunrunners to Jihad, as reported by Seymour Hersh, famed leftwing journalist. Here is an excerpt from his article published earlier this month titled: “The Red Line and the Rat Line“:
The full extent of US co-operation with Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar in assisting the rebel opposition in Syria has yet to come to light. The Obama administration has never publicly admitted to its role in creating what the CIA calls a ‘rat line’, a back channel highway into Syria. The rat line, authorized in early 2012, was used to funnel weapons and ammunition from Libya via southern Turkey and across the Syrian border to the opposition. Many of those in Syria who ultimately received the weapons were jihadists, some of them affiliated with al-Qaida.
In January, the Senate Intelligence Committee released a report on the assault by a local militia in September 2012 on the American consulate and a nearby undercover CIA facility in Benghazi, which resulted in the death of the US ambassador, Christopher Stevens, and three others. The report’s criticism of the State Department for not providing adequate security at the consulate, and of the intelligence community for not alerting the US military to the presence of a CIA outpost in the area, received front-page coverage and revived animosities in Washington, with Republicans accusing Obama and Hillary Clinton of a cover-up.
A highly classified annex to the report, not made public, described a secret agreement reached in early 2012 between the Obama and Erdoğan administrations. It pertained to the rat line. By the terms of the agreement, funding came from Turkey, as well as Saudi Arabia and Qatar; the CIA, with the support of MI6, was responsible for getting arms from Gaddafi’s arsenals into Syria. A number of front companies were set up in Libya, some under the cover of Australian entities. Retired American soldiers, who didn’t always know who was really employing them, were hired to manage procurement and shipping. The operation was run by David Petraeus, the CIA director who would soon resign when it became known he was having an affair with his biographer. (A spokesperson for Petraeus denied the operation ever took place.)
The operation had not been disclosed at the time it was set up to the congressional intelligence committees and the congressional leadership, as required by law since the 1970s. The involvement of MI6 enabled the CIA to evade the law by classifying the mission as a liaison operation.
Early reports, from Oct. 2012, provided ample evidence that there were heavy weapons transfers from Libya to Syria with American and Turkish assistance.
Other sources report the likelihood that Obama’s Rat Line used illegal means to transfer weapons from Libya to Syria to give to Jihadists fighting Assad.
Now, this more recent report by Seymour Hersh reveals that the Senate Intelligence Committee also knows what actually happened in Benghazi.
The background on the Rat Line adds to the international intrigue.
According to this article in the Washington Times, Syria’s Assad worked hard to defeat the U.S. in Iraq from 2003 through 2011. He encouraged Al Qaeda forces and other terrorists to use Syria to funnel weapons and fighters into Iraq to kill Americans, his own Rat Line. In those years, Al Qaeda and others became entrenched in Syria; and now they have turned on Assad using Libyan weapons supplied by Obama and the Turks, an example of ‘what goes around, comes around.’
One might be tempted to applaud U.S./Turkish efforts to defeat Assad if those efforts were legal, honorable, up front, and effective.
As it is, we have humiliation in Benghazi: four dead Americans left to be murdered, by a President who invaded Libya illegally in the first place. We have illegal arms shipments arranged by the CIA with the help of MI6 thanks to the supervision of David Petraeus. And we have American aid going to Al Qaeda, for whatever reason; and that is treasonous.
The murderer Assad remains in power in Syria, while Al Qaeda operations expand worldwide–and Libya falls deeper into chaos.
All this leaves us no closer to understanding the motivations for the attacks on the consulate and the annex, and no closer to capturing the perpetrators, all of whom remain at large 18 months after killing our people. All we can do is speculate that elements from terrorist groups coordinating with Libyans hired to protect our people launched an assault for some unknown reason, likely having to do with the arms trade to Syria. The fact Ambassador Chris Stevens met with a Turkish official just an hour before the attacks would indicate he was involved, at the behest of Hillary Clinton.
So, Mrs. Clinton, what difference does it make? Apparently, it makes a huge difference, especially in view of the fact you pushed the establishment of the consulate in Benghazi, ignored our ambassador’s pleas for beefed up security, and, with Obama, left him there to die–even as he was doing your bidding.
And it makes a difference, Mrs. Clinton, because had you been honest, it is quite likely Barack Obama would have lost re-election. And by now, the country might have been on the road to recovery.
