The FCC’s Threat To Internet Freedom

Tomorrow morning the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will mark the winter solstice by taking an unprecedented step to expand government’s reach into the Internet by attempting to regulate its inner workings. In doing so, the agency will circumvent Congress and disregard a recent court ruling.

How did the FCC get here?

For years, proponents of so-called “net neutrality” have been calling for strong regulation of broadband “on-ramps” to the Internet, like those provided by your local cable or phone companies. Rules are needed, the argument goes, to ensure that the Internet remains open and free, and to discourage broadband providers from thwarting consumer demand. That sounds good if you say it fast.

Nothing is broken that needs fixing, however. The Internet has been open and freedom-enhancing since it was spun off from a government research project in the early 1990s. Its nature as a diffuse and dynamic global network of networks defies top-down authority. Ample laws to protect consumers already exist. Furthermore, the Obama Justice Department and the European Commission both decided this year that net-neutrality regulation was unnecessary and might deter investment in next-generation Internet technology and infrastructure.

    Hey Obama … up urs!!!!

    • If your against net neutrality and you were paying attention you would have read that the obama justice department thought this was unnessesary. But based on your comment I'm guessing you don't really pay attention to anything. Thanks for representing our party so well.

    • Everything Obama has said in the last 3 years has been a lie. So why do you believe him now? Hint: It's just a smoke screen!

  2. Obama is really a gangster, this dude is a punk with power. Keep it up, democrats, socialists, communist and the fake Republicans. The American people in there righteous might will stop all you creeps in the end. Tea Party will become the dominant Party in 2011. Its happening now. The exexutive Branch is out of control. Why does no one force the birth certificate issue and lets get rid of the Alien, my God what will it take.

  3. Time to start a new internet. I remember dialing into bulletin boards before the Al Gore invented the internet, maybe we can go back to that with high speed and get off the grid so to speak?

  4. This article basically gives you no information whatsoever on net neutraility the way it was written the writer is obviously against it and he wants his readers support his stance without actually giving any information to decide for themselves. Very biast. From what I understand net neutraility keeps large companys like comcast and AT & T from controlling a majority of internet connectivity, stopping them from favoring bandwith too sites that either pay them extra fees, support a certain aggenda, and or sell their product on the net. Net neutrailty assures a fair bandwith amount for all web adresses. Without it, comcast or other internet giants could basically control which websites you see first, and make websites that they feel you dont need to seem slow or bogged down.

All these things Obuma is doing is in the Saul Alinsky playbook on how to take over the country. You take over the internet and make sure you get a feud going with the poor vs the rich and get the aclu to take out God and bingo your on your way to socialism.Plus you add bloggers like that McPherson and Huffington to do your dirty work and lets face it today the young adults could give a fiddlers diddler what happens to them.
