One student in a Texas high school is taking legal action after she said she was reprimanded for not participating in a class recitation of the Mexican pledge of allegiance and national anthem.
Fifteen-year-old Brenda Brindson’s suit, filed by the Thomas More Law Center, contends that administrators violated her constitutional rights by forcing her to salute a foreign nation’s flag.
While the same school district has a written policy against coercing students to recite either the American pledge of allegiance or the U.S. Declaration of Independence, somehow verbally expressing loyalty to another nation is compulsory.
Richard Thompson, president of the TMLC, said this incident is indicative of “a sad trend in public schools across our nation to undermine American patriotism,” though he said he finds it “encouraging to see students like Brenda stand up for America despite pressure from school officials.”
Such pressure reportedly included Brindson’s teacher issuing her a failing grade on the assignment and forcing her to listen to a wave of schoolmates pledge allegiance to Mexico.
According to her lawsuit, Brindson even tried to compromise with her teacher, requesting to instead salute the American flag and recite its pledge in Spanish.
The student, fluent in Spanish and the daughter of a Mexican immigrant, is a proud American and contends that pledging loyalty to any other nation is unacceptable.
She gets no argument from me.

This seems to be a little late.
It is the subject of an earlier blog that got hundreds of responses.
The central theme was
* Recall the School Board, fire everybody and start over
* If parents of McAllen allow this to stand, they must approve
* The biggest Patriot in McAllen is young Ms Brindson
Y’all got scooped!
I would consider this a treasonous act by the teacher or teachers and the administration! AND If parents in McAllen approve then I consider them a part of an act of treason. Jail them all or ship them across the border I don’t care but what is happening in our educational system needs to be returned to prayer in school, allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and an education on the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

The idiot techer should be banned from any school in America ! I would loved for idiots like that to be carted off to live in one of those countries for several years!!

There needs to be a symbolic action of contempt for any educator that tries to indoctrinate any American Student to prefer to pledge to a foreign Flag, which is fundamentally “Treason”. She should spend 3 years in Jail and be “Tarred and feathered” and sent out of town pedaling a Tricycle.

I agree…. “scoop” is a local competitive thing.
In the spirit of America we love competition.
BUT, far outweighing the “scoop” element is America!

The area of McAllen is predomninately Mexican. BUT the schools and area is part of Texas.. If the teacher and students do this they should be deported to MEXICO!. If they are so in love with that HELL HOLE they need to go back home… They for the most part are living on the LONE STAR CARD. I know this for I lived there a few winters as a Winter Texas. The drugs are a big part of business there and they are all living very high class. Drive the best of vehicles and they want for nothing in the way of clothes, food, cars, phones, . They live in style but on the American people.. They have trashed the area with grafiti and just trash everywhere in general… If they took over America I would hate to see what it looked like in 6 mos. They have no pride in anything for they have come from a country that is trashed also,, thanks to the people like them. Any of these students, teachers etc demonstrating such loyality to mexico should have their Lone Star card taken and them deported back to the country they love so much… They do not have enough education to build a country if they had it..Look where they came from and they want to take over Calif. Texas, Mexico and Ariz… Pffffff…
Amazing. Many of our teachers are practically illiterate in math and sciences but they teach “history” that they know little about. We need to get rid of every teacher who cannot pass a proficiency test in math, physics, chemistry, geology, geography, history. We need the brightest and the best teaching our children—not this university discards who were too lazy and/or stupid to get real degrees.
