Taxpayers spent $1.4 billion dollars on everything from staffing, housing, flying and entertaining President Obama and his family last year, according to the author of a new book on taxpayer-funded presidential perks.
In comparison, British taxpayers spent just $57.8 million on the royal family.
Author Robert Keith Gray writes in “Presidential Perks Gone Royal” that Obama isn’t the only president to have taken advantage of the expensive trappings of his office. But the amount of money spent on the first family, he argues, has risen tremendously under the Obama administration and needs to be reined in.
Gray told The Daily Caller that the $1.4 billion spent on the Obama family last year is the “total cost of the presidency,” factoring the cost of the “biggest staff in history at the highest wages ever,” a 50 percent increase in the numbers of appointed czars and an Air Force One “running with the frequency of a scheduled air line.”
“The most concerning thing, I think, is the use of taxpayer funds to actually abet his re-election,” Gray, who worked in the Eisenhower administration and for other Republican presidents, said in an interview with TheDC on Wednesday.

The Obummers feel they are ENTITLED to these perks…why doesn’t he DO the JOB and EARN the perks….this is ridiculous…
That’s because he isn’t POTUS, he’s Boy King and despots get to do whatever they want to do, no?
And if Obama feels that he’s entitled to these perks (at our taxpayer’s expense), then it’s no wonder that the “47%” also feel that they are entitled to “their perks”.
As one lady shouted: she’s voting for Obama because he gave her a “free” phone. Nothing else mattered. As long as she got “hers”, that’s all that counted.
Should we have any problem with giving Obuma and his folks over two and one-half million dollars per week for vacations, etc.? Should we be so hard-hearted as to expect them to get by on a paltry sum such as one million per week? How can we be so cruel? I know Obuma doesn’t actually do much work – at least the work of the President of the United States. But, doesn’t he deserve all the extra bucks? After all, he does show up for work about 40% of the time. How long would any of us keep our job in we skipped work three days out of every five? How long would we keep our job if we chose to golf instead of come to work? And, how many perks and bonuses would our spouse get? Oh, no prob! We’ll just charge it on the company card.
