You may not have heard, but President Obama was not the only person reelected last Tuesday. House Republicans, running on a conservative message and conservative ideas, received a strong endorsement from the voters. Many great conservatives were also elected to the House and Senate for the first time. We were not elected to raise taxes.
When considering the debate over taxes and spending, I am reminded of the Parable of the Two Builders. The wise man built his house on a foundation of rock, and no rain, wind, or flood could knock it down. The fool, who built on a foundation of sand, was quick to find misfortune.
We can build America’s future on the foundation of greater liberty, a stronger commitment to free enterprise, a less intrusive federal government, and fair opportunities for every man and woman to earn their success. We can pursue pro-growth tax reform (not tax increases) and the sensible changes offered by House Republicans to revamp Medicare and fix the broken welfare system. That would be a wise path.
But there is also a foolish path, one built on higher taxes and debt to feed an activist government that alleges to do for us what we could better do ourselves. When the inevitable storms come – when lenders stop lending, investment slows to a trickle, and the revenue dries up – houses built on sand will crumble.
The fiscal cliff’s spending cuts are relatively modest in the short term, but a $500 billion per year tax increase would do very bad things to our economy. To prevent that, President Obama will have to do more than give speeches and recite talking points. Republicans spent the last few years offering solutions and negotiating with ourselves. It’s time for President Obama put his plan to paper and send Congress an actual piece of legislation to consider.
God Bless,

What an uplifting positive article! I sure do appreciate reading this! And it is spot on, too!
My newly redistricted congressional district voted OUT a liberal democrat and IN a conservative republican! And THAT sure IS good news!
Great article!

Thank you Congressman Jordan, 2 points to make on that! You are right. Americans overwhelmingly voted cconservative on almost every issue and many elections. So I ask myself, “How is it that looking at the entire picture of day of Nov. 6; IE proposals, state and local elections, fed reps, How did Obama keep his seat? One answer and one only!!! FRAUD. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!! THAT”S YOUR JOB!!!! Or we as in “WE THE PEOPLE” will. History books are filled with what we did to the last monarchy that tried to rule us without representation. Point 2; YOU HAVE THE PURSE STRINGS!!!! Cut them if you have to. The people will applaud a congress that says “NO MORE MONEY” Always keep in mind we would much rather fix this sad state of affairs (the state of our government) with constitutional methods, but when our voting is overrun by GOVERNMENT fraud, we will be left with no recourse other than the same one we had in the 1700′s. I AM AN AMERICAN!!!!! And I will fight for my country even if that means against the government. Remember where your paycheck comes from, it would not be hard for the working man to shut your party down.
As I read through this, I found myself agreeing with most of it, until I got to the very end. It isn’t that the principles were wrong, it was that we would think that this is something we can accomplish. Our nation was founded, and prospered, on the belief that we would never have to accomplish anything on our own.
We dedicated this nation to God. That is why we have been unstoppable. Not because we have greater idea, or a stronger military, or more money, but because we put God above all. When we stopped doing that, we were destined to fail.
Until we learn to repent, and put God back in His natural place, as head of this nation, we are destined to fail. This isn’t a new story, it happened throughout the bible. Israel would try to “go it alone”, and they would fail. When they quit relying on themselves, and put their faith in God, and His will, the would prosper.
So, you can do all the things written above, and they are worthy goals, but they will fail until we turn back to our first Love.
