Todd Akin SC Akin: McCaskill Fetches DC Headaches Like A ‘Dog’

WASHINGTON (OfficialWire) — Embattled GOP Senate hopeful Todd Akin says Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill fetches Washington headaches and brings them back to Missouri like a “dog.”

The website PoliticMo.com captured audio from a Saturday night fundraiser of Akin telling supporters that McCaskill goes to Washington, and, like a game of “fetch,” brings home red tape, bureaucracy and executive orders. Akin says a senator should “bless” Missouri with solutions instead of more problems.

Medical Authority On Akin’s Side

A doctor says Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin’s (R) controversial “misstatement” about rape and conception was actually not far off base.

In a recent interview on national television, Akin made a misstatement in attempting to explain medical information on the occurrence of conception through rape.

“From what I understand from doctors, [conception as a result of rape is] really rare,” he said. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down. But let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work or something. I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be of the rapist and not attacking the child.”

Speaking this week on American Family Radio’s “Today’s Issues,” Jane M. Orient, M.D. of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) said that although Akin did not express himself adequately, there is medical data to back up what he was trying to say.

“I think Akin was making a statement that in cases of forcible rape, pregnancy is quite uncommon,” Dr. Orient declares. “And there are medical textbooks that support what he says.”

Cowardice In Washington

us capitol building SC Cowardice in WashingtonAny time a political consultant writes an op-ed, first find out who is signing his paycheck so you can have a better-informed opinion of his opinion.

Last week Curt Anderson called in these pages for Todd Akin to get out of the Missouri Senate race for comments Akin made in a television interview last month. If you go to the website of Anderson’s company, OnMessage, you can see that his clients include the Republican National Committee (RNC) and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), whose chairmen have called on Akin to get out of the race and are increasingly angry he has decided to press on.

So Anderson is hardly a disinterested observer. Nor is he saying anything new. He’s simply expressing a new version of the same old Beltway cowardice.

Anderson makes three arguments for Akin to get out of the race. The first two are that Akin’s comments were based on debunked medical theories and that they were insensitive and hurtful.

Akin doesn’t disagree, which is why he immediately apologized for his remarks and asked Missouri voters to forgive him for his thoughtless comments.
