For somebody who claims to be known as a ‘firecracker’, Maureen Sullivan is a woman who has been burned more than her fair share.
Aged 61, she has been swindled out of $168,000 by a conman, lost a $5m fortune and missed out on a stock market jackpot worth double that.
She has gone bankrupt with just $50 in her hand, been sued for defamation and had a string of toyboys, one of whom got her name tattooed on his right arm as a token of his devotion.
Perhaps none of this may have ever happened had it not been for the extraordinarily bitter divorce from her husband, former Staples chief executive Tom Stemberg in 1987.
And for almost half her adult life she has been at ‘war’ with him.
The latest battleground is the U.S. presidential election. Sullivan, with the help of uber-liberal lawyer Gloria Allred, wants to lift a gagging order imposed during the original hearing and unseal the sworn testimony of Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney who gave evidence for Stemberg.
