Gasoline Pump SC Blame Big Corn for High Gas Prices

A frequent question that has beeen asked in recent months is why the record increases in America’s crude oil production over the last several years haven’t translated into lower prices at the pump for gasoline in the US. A recent BloombergBusinessweek article explains “Why Abundant Oil Hasn’t Cut Gasoline Prices,” here are some edited excerpts:

For the first time since 1995, the U.S. will produce more oil than it imports, but the benefits of all that cheap domestic crude still haven’t shown up at the one place it matters most: the gas station. Even as fuel consumption has fallen to 16 percent below its 2007 peak, gasoline remains a dollar higher than the average price over the past decade.

Simple economics suggest that higher supplies and lower demand should translate into cheaper prices. That presumes today’s petroleum markets are simple. Over the last year, the oil boom has upended the long-held belief that U.S. production would inexorably decline while America’s appetite for gasoline continued to rise, leaving the country hopelessly hooked on foreign crude. As the opposite has occurred, regulatory and transportation systems that grew out of those old assumptions have become increasingly outdated, preventing the forces of supply and demand from working efficiently.

And ethanol requirements have backfired. The idea was to stretch a limited oil supply, cut reliance on imported crude, and make use of abundant corn harvests. But today the ethanol program is raising costs for refiners even as the price of oil has fallen 10 percent over the last year.

U.S. refiners retain a price advantage over their foreign competitors in Europe and Latin America, since U.S. crude is still cheaper than most foreign benchmark blends. This has led to healthy profits for some of the nation’s largest refiners. Now those lucrative margins have come under pressure as fuel makers run headlong into a biofuel mandate that has become tougher and more expensive to meet.

America’s founding fathers were beholden to the odd notion that the best prevention against a tyrannical leader or mob rule was the simple yet effective system of checks and balances. Presently, a nominal Republican majority in the House of Representatives is the only thing keeping American capitalism from a nosedive into collectivism, communism, Marxism, Leninism, or Maoism. (Feel free to choose your noun.)

I write “odd notion” because since taking office, Obama and Team Pelosi-Reid have effectively used the U.S. Constitution for White House toilet paper. They consistently write checks that can’t be cashed and operate on budgets that cannot be balanced. Not exactly what the founders had in mind. Need a more specific example? All one needs to do is remember the spending spree Democrats went on when they were in control during 2009-2010, leading to the Obamacare fight that Republicans and a majority of Americans went on to lose.

As a result, the electorate said “yes” to checks and balances when it said “no more” to Democrats-Gone-Wild, awarding Republicans the House majority during the 2010 midterm elections (and again in 2012). It’s been a miserable two years for debt-addicted Democrats. Addiction is the right word to be applied here. Addicts (insert Democrats) lose control of their sensibilities, never attaining satisfaction because they always need more.

To heck with the electorate’s wishes and checks and balances; many of these archetypal addicts have convinced themselves any way but their way is downright immoral. According to the Washington Post on March 2, President Obama told reporters he can’t “force Congress to do the right thing” regarding the sequester he originally initiated. Right thing? Seems to me Congress is doing the right thing when they say no to what they believe is the wrong thing for those they represent. Right… err…correct?

Not on your life — if the goal is to eliminate all things traditionally American. And if that’s the case, brace yourself for more Chicago-style gangsta’ politics to regain control of the House of Representatives in 2014. That’s why we will continue to hear incessant rants flowing from Obama’s mouth articulating a dishonest portrayal of the “checks” (Republicans) placed to keep him in balance.

We also see the creepy metamorphosis of Obama’s “Organizing for America” into “Organizing for Action” (OFA), which, according to The Weekly Standard, exploits “a loophole in campaign law and ethics regulations” by claiming it is an ostensibly nonpolitical “social welfare group.” Considering some of the emails they’ve sent and I’ve received, they’re about as nonpolitical as the 501c(3) organization Media Matters, of which Fox News claims is bias to Democrats and “maintains a close working relationship with the Obama White House.”

OFA is pimping out the POTUS at $500,000 a pop. Regardless of legality, OFA is raising “pay to play” to a whole new level. “You can buy four audiences per year with President Obama,” according to the Washington Examiner. And $500,000 is for what? A means to an end, I guess.

Those beholden to common sense can glance beyond the peripheral to see what’s undoubtedly happening. Had public welfare, by way of job creation or relief from exorbitant food and gas prices, been a priority, the momentum would be moving in the other direction five years in. Instead, Obama is bent on destroying the one thing, the GOP, that is keeping him from his dream of radical change.

Gasoline prices, which hit a 2012 low of $3.22 a gallon Dec. 19, are up 8 cents in the past two weeks and will likely continue climbing through April. Experts say the 2013 national average will likely top out at about $3.95 a gallon.

That early winter break you’ve been getting at the gasoline pump? It’s beginning to show signs of cracking.

Gasoline prices remain below $3 a gallon in at least 50% or more outlets in 14 states. But the national average has crept up three cents to $3.30 a gallon the past week and 8 cents since hitting a 2012 low of $3.22 in mid-December.

It’s likely to get worse in the coming weeks. Crude oil prices are up about $10 a gallon the past month, with benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude closing at $93.09 a barrel Friday, finishing the week up 2.5%.

Many have called the 2012 election the most important in their lifetime. But in citing the economy, unemployment, foreign affairs, gas prices, healthcare, and the burgeoning corruption of the American judiciary, political pundits may have universally ignored the real threat to the American public and the reason it was imperative to remove the Obama Regime from power.

It happened back in March. Republican representative Tom Graves of Georgia asked FBI Director Robert Mueller whether the Administration’s “…policy of extra-judicial killings of American citizens abroad could also apply in the United States.”  Incredibly, Mueller responded “I have to go back. Uh, I’m not certain whether that was addressed or not.”

Graves then made it a bit easier, asking whether “…from a historical perspective the federal government has the ability to kill a United States citizen on United States soil, or just overseas.”  “I’m going to defer that to others in the Department of Justice, said Mueller.”

What was this all about?

On New Year’s Eve, Barack Hussein Obama signed into law the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). In language passed overwhelmingly by Congress, the Act provides the president the immutable power to, on his own authority, order the death of anyone he considers an “enemy combatant” (that is, a terror threat to the United States.) It is a command to kill that cannot be questioned or overridden.

Obama alone has the power to assign guilt and mete out the punishment of death. The Constitutional rights of Due Process no longer exist. And as Director Mueller made so patently clear, even the FBI doesn’t know if this death sentence may apply to American citizens both abroad and on US soil.

Language permitting the murder of American citizens by the federal government was added to the NDAA in 2010. There were few complaints either in the House or the Senate as politicians feared accusations of being soft on terrorism far more than they regretted their outright assassination of the Constitution. And now, 300 million people face the possibility of being targeted for death by their own government.

Would voters have behaved differently had they known their lives might depend on the outcome? Probably not. Those living on government (i.e. taxpayer) largesse would hardly have cared. Empty-headed females responsible for putting every liberal from Carter to Obama in the White House would have undoubtedly voted in exactly the same way as well, unable as they are to differentiate between stark reality and the fantasy world of Oprah Winfrey.

And would the election of Mitt Romney have changed anything? No. New England liberals are hardly known for their spirited commitment to Constitutional rights. After all, Mitt was the proud engineer of an “assault weapons” ban in Massachusetts, wasn’t he?!

For nearly 30 years, presidential elections have featured everything but a conservative candidate. As a result, more and more Americans have stayed home on Election Day, allowing liberal Republicans and Marxist Democrats to wreak havoc on their nation and their Constitution.

Sooner or later, the lives of citizens WILL be forfeit to a corrupt political class that no longer recognizes or cares about the constitutional rights of their constituents. What’s that about blood watering the tree of liberty? Could be that’s the only thing that will awaken the American public to the loss of their nation.

Timing is everything in politics. For four years, I angered conservatives by insisting that Barack Obama would get reelected. I figured that an electorate willing to elect a man with ideas and a record that far to the left in 2008 would do so again. I began changing my view, however, after the first presidential debate. Over the last three or four weeks, I became confident that Mitt Romney would defeat Obama.

Fortunately for Obama, two forces intervened to rescue him. One was the mainstream media, which ensured that Benghazi, Hurricane Sandy, and the increase in the unemployment rate wouldn’t be used to undermine Obama. As for Hurricane Sandy, Obama flew in for a photo-op and then immediately returned to campaigning. If George W. Bush were president, a relentless media would have ensured that Bush didn’t return to the campaign trail.

The second force was David Axelrod and the campaign machine. I stand in awe at what they pulled off. They managed to push considerably more Democrats than Republicans to the polls (38-32 percent margin), closer to the 2008 turnout that favored Obama than the 2010 mid-term turnout that favored Republicans. Because they did, the predictions of an easy Romney victory by the likes of Dick Morris, Michael Barone, George Will, and Newt Gingrich (and myself) were dead wrong. We were certain that pollsters were oversampling Democrats. The pro-Republican, pro-Romney, and anti-Obama enthusiasm we were seeing was extremely intense. It was inconceivable to us that it could be overcome by a higher Democrat turnout. Somehow, however, it was, obliterating Romney’s five-point victory among independents. It erased Romney’s 50-49 percent edge in the final polls by Gallup and Rasmussen.

I stand in stunned disbelief. David Axelrod, you are a miracle worker.

How much of a miracle worker? Consider:

The American people reelected a man who presided over one of the worst four-year economic records in American history. By every objective measurement, the economy is far worse than it was four years ago: 47 million on food stamps (up from 32 million); all-time record deficits and debit (dwarfing the Bush numbers); chronic unemployment; a prolonged non-recovering recovery; 636,000 homeless; a doubling of gas prices; and on and on.

For historical perspective, consider this: No president since FDR in 1940 won reelection with an unemployment rate above 7.1 percent. And for FDR, that number was a huge improvement from four years earlier.

How did Obama and his team overcome this? The answer: they successfully blamed it on George W. Bush, with Bill Clinton aiding and abetting the process. There were no limits to how much they blamed Bush and how much it worked. The Democratic base swallowed it hook, line, and sinker.

Sadly, other things worked as well, and none are good for this country. The framing of Republicans as conducting a “war on women” because they don’t favor forced taxpayer funding of abortion,Planned Parenthood, and contraception worked. The insistence that government-provided contraception is a new “entitlement” worked. The demonization of the Tea Party—a movement spontaneously created by Obama’s wild spending—worked.

For that matter, Obama got away with the extraordinarily wasteful $800 billon “stimulus” package that didn’t stimulate and buried us fiscally. He even got away with the HHS mandate that constitutes the greatest threat to religious liberty (particularly against the Catholic Church) in at least a century.

In terms of social policy, the electorate has given the green light to a president who is redefining marriage and promoting forced funding of abortion and contraception and embryo destruction—at the expense of religious liberty.

Moreover, the president’s unceasing class-warfare rhetoric was rewarded by the electorate, as were his attacks on profits, the private sector, the wealthy, banking and investment, and the oil and natural gas industry. The Obama energy policy is advanced. Mitt Romney would have unleashed a boom for America’s domestic energy industry. That is now gone. That is a tragedy, the levels of which we will not be able to appreciate.

And what about Romney? I had my reservations, but America rejected a genuinely decent man who had the best business background of anyone who would have ever assumed the Oval Office. He was the perfect person for the perfect time.

In short, what we saw on November 6, 2012 was a breathtaking display of political survival by Barack Obama, the first president to be re-elected with a lower number of Electoral College votes and popular vote. What we also witnessed was the final step in the fundamental transformation of America that Barack Obama promised four years ago.

Points To Ponder Before Voting…

Before you cast your vote, think about a few things.

Libya:

Chris Stevens was in Benghazi in order to recruit Islamic Jihadists to overthrow the current leadership in Syria.  The US was supplying weapons to these Jihadists.  If Obama wasn’t aware of the attack, it was because he either ignored the call, or his trusted aides refused to notify him.  Neither option is acceptable.  I think he knew, and watched, as Americans were murdered.  We know he lied about the cause and the circumstances of the attack. We know the military was refused permission to help. I think that this was a planned incident, approved by Obama, that went horribly wrong, and that the lies were a desperate attempt to shift blame.

There were attacks at many other Consulates and Embassies, but these faded as they resulted in no real damage.  Had Benghazi had the same result, Obama could have used these incidents to show that with him in charge, the US had strength.  He would then have been able to reveal an agreement with Iran over nuclear weapons and pretty much guarantee his re-election.  The economy would have still been in ruins, socialism would reign, and the United States would still be “Fundamentally Changed”, but voters would have only seen a President coming down hard on rioters.

The Economy:

Are you better off now than you were four years ago?  Have you received raises?  Do you have a job that pays what you were making then?  Do you have a job?  Have you retired or taken disability because you were unable to get a job?

When ObamaCare was passed, all the employees at the company I work for received a letter stating that it was unknown what insurance would be offered for the next year; now we know, and it’s not good!  Profit is down for companies, and wages have been frozen for years.  More part-time employees are being hired, and full-time positions are being cut.  Many employers are giving their employees the option of accepting part-time work or taking unemployment.  If you are reduced to part-time, you can file for partial unemployment but, when it comes time to renew unemployment, it is readjusted to what you earned in the past year (and you no longer qualify as it is based on the partial employment.)

Companies that are hiring are paying less and filling positions with part-time employees.  Many that are hiring now are doing so only for the Christmas Season; what will happen in January?  The recently unemployed are going on assistance and Food Stamps, not because they want to but because they have to.

Gas prices are going down a little; it now costs me $57 to fill my tank rather than $61 (whoopee!)  Four years ago, even eight years ago, it cost around $25 to $27.  I still have the same job as then but make 1/3 less than I did four years ago.  When gas prices were rising in 2007 and 2008, Bush was blamed; now we are told that the President has no control and that Obama is totally innocent.  What changed in three years to take the blame from the Administration?

Religion:

We are a Judeo/Christian Nation, one that welcomes others to legally practice their own religion or lack thereof.  You can separate the different religions of our Founding Fathers all you want, but the First Settlers came here in order to practice Christianity without being told what religion they must follow by the Governments in their homelands.  The Founding Fathers were Christian, although they were members of different Church affiliations.   Jewish immigrants came in droves to avoid being persecuted and murdered by an unfriendly government.

We welcome those who practice other religions as long as they do so without breaking the laws of the United States.  Mormons are no longer allowed to legally have multiple wives; Satanists are not allowed to perform human sacrifice.  Hindi, Taoists, Buddhists, and all others are welcome.  Muslims are also welcome as long as they follow the Constitution of the United States of America and the laws in effect where they are.

Our laws and ethics are based on Judeo/Christian values, the values and laws taught to us in the Bible; if you remove the God-specific Commandments and pay attention to Commandments 5 through 10, you will find the basis for our laws:

“And God spoke all these words, saying: “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

  1. You shall have no other gods before me.
  2. You shall not make for yourself any carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
  3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
  4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
  5. Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
  6. You shall not murder.
  7. You shall not commit adultery.
  8. You shall not steal.
  9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
  10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”

Transparency:

The only transparency we have gotten from the Obama Administration has been by accident.

He hasn’t been transparent about his life or background, the fact that he was mentored and raised by anti-American extremists, and the fact that he and his wife were members of anti-American groups in college and went to a Church that did not preach the Love of God but the Hatred of America.

I don’t want to get into the “birther” argument, but his parents (plural) were not both American Citizens.  The “s” in parents stated in the Constitution was put there for a reason and not by accident.

He claims credit for the death of Bin Laden, but many sources have stated that at least twice prior, he declined permission for the mission and that the mission that did end Bin Laden’s life was approved without his knowledge (and he was informed only after the events were in motion.)

This is the administration that should also claim credit for the death of four Americans in Libya.

This is also the man who told Medvedev to wait until I get re-elected and “I’ll have more flexibility”.  This is the man who insists that the media not mention the race of those committing crimes if they are black.

But…There is transparency (leaks) about whom the operatives were that helped us get Bin Laden.  Those operatives are paying the price for this transparency.  It’s like a movie where the bad guy is eliminating all the ‘loose ends’.

Only Racism Can Explain Obama’s Low Poll Numbers, Says The Left

“I think it’s a statement against the white people to talk like this,” moaned MSNBC’s Chris “Tingles” Matthews about the racist Sarah Palin having accused Barack Obama of a “shuck and jive” attempt to dodge the Benghazi issue. A typical member of the far left, Tingles doesn’t believe white voters could be displeased with Obama’s policies and actions as president. His lagging poll numbers MUST therefore be the result of racism.

Obama spent two weeks lying about the Benghazi mission story, all for the purpose of protecting his Regime’s fabrication of a glorious and peaceful Arab Spring.  After the Democrat-hyped killing of Osama bin Laden, Barack boasted that al Qaeda was “on the run” and Middle East terrorism a thing of the past. Perhaps he believed the mainstream media would protect him from the real story of the Benghazi mission attack getting to the public. But emails have now been leaked proving the White House knew from the beginning that terrorists, not movies, were responsible for 4 American deaths. And though many of his fawning media acolytes will bury the story of the Regime’s Muhammed movie scam, the years have taught a great many voters that Obama is a pathological liar.

For 2 years, Barack and his criminal Attorney General have ignored congressional subpoenas for information about the Regime’s deadly, 2nd Amendment-subverting scheme Fast and Furious. In the end, Obama had to assert a claim of executive privilege to prevent Republican congressmen from obtaining proof of Eric Holder’s guilt in managing the cover-up of an affair that cost hundreds of lives. Another fine character reference for The One.

Obama has presided over 8% unemployment, 4 years of $1 trillion deficits, the doubling of gas prices, and the deliberate and calculated assassination of the middle class, all to pay homage to his Marxist upbringing and lifelong contempt for the United States. He has spent his entire term of office blaming these and other problems of his own manufacture on George Bush. But only hardcore Obama supporters are still buying his excuses.

Of course, Obama has spent years and quite a bit of money preventing anyone from looking into the sealed records of his past and demanding he prove his constitutional eligibility to be president. Millions of Americans have lost patience with this evasion and dishonesty.

The arrogant Obama has broken the law and ignored the constitutional restraints placed upon executive authority, knowing that the obliging and less-than-courageous Republican leadership would say and do nothing about it. But 4 years of such contempt for the American people have taken their toll on Obama’s “hopenchange” image. For though he may own the national media, the internet is still available for those interested in proclaiming or discovering the truth.

Yet according to the far left, it is not these harmless little peccadilloes that have caused the American public to consider Mitt Romney as the next occupant at Pennsylvania Avenue.  No, Matthews and his ilk are certain that racism is the real reason Obama will be an ex-president next week.

Someone should tell Matthews that although the foolish and easily-led put Obama in office, Americans will throw him out. The MSNBC hack should get a REAL tingle out of that.

Most of us have never seen such a drastic and stark contrast between the two major political parties in America like we have today. Though the Republican Party has a long way to go to return to its conservative roots, the Democratic Party has been infiltrated by the far Left. My grandparents were Democrats back when that party was a bit more moderate. Today, they have fully embraced abortion and support its federal funding; they have repealed the national Defense of Marriage Act, and support same-sex marriage.

Due to the liberal policies of the Obama administration, they have also racked up record entitlement and green technology spending. Approximately 47 million Americans are now on food stamps and many green energy companies the Obama Democrats bet our money on have now gone bankrupt and the media barely utters a word.

Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards is volunteering for the Obama campaign ‘for our daughters and granddaughters.’ Who can forget when Obama said if one of his daughters got pregnant, “I don’t want them punished with a baby.”[i] This is an extreme, under-reported stance on abortion. It’s disappointing that our tax dollars not only help fund abortion which most Christians oppose, but we also give aid to Planned Parenthood which proudly supports the Democratic Party. Richards makes $400,000 a year salary and Planned Parenthood raked in over $1 billion in total revenue last year.

In the weeks leading up to the 2012 Presidential Election, Franklin Graham has said he cannot and will not vote for any candidate who opposes pro-life legislation or who opposes traditional marriage. In a recent sermon by author and pastor John MacArthur entitled “Homosexuality and the Campaign for Immorality,” MacArthur stated God has abandoned America over the sin of homosexuality and we are living in times of rebellion and sexual revolution. He went on to declare, “The Democratic Party has become the anti-God party and the sin-promoting party.”[ii]

If Bible-believing Christians understand the moral principles upon which America was founded, we must also take notice of the glaring chasm between the Republican and Democratic Parties today. It’s confusing to me that many Christians continue voting along party lines instead of Biblical lines. I’ve said this before; Christians cannot leave Jesus Christ outside the voting booth when we cast our ballot on Election Day.

Next, a president’s most important responsibility is to keep America safe. There also seems to be two very different national defense philosophies as every day, more details emerge about last month’s terror attacks in Benghazi that left four Americans dead. Many are suggesting the weak foreign policy of the Obama administration may have led to the assassination of our U.S. Ambassador, the first time this has happened since the Carter administration. Tragically, Ambassador Stevens had asked for more security which could have prevented the deadly attacks on the embassy, and even warned of an Islamist group who took credit for a prior attack.

From an economic perspective, things don’t look good for President Obama either. However, the mainstream media continually covers up bad news. Gas prices are way up. The unemployment rate has been over 8 percent and as high as 10 percent for 43 months of his term. If we do the math and consider the people who dropped out of the workforce, it would still be over 10 percent today. 23 million Americans are out of work or underemployed. Four years ago, Obama promised to fix the problem by spending trillions of dollars on a so-called “economic stimulus.

He has clearly failed. Obama also promised to cut the deficit in half, but instead his administration has almost tripled the deficit. He spent the first year of his term pushing his controversial health care law which we now know could bankrupt the country. Rates are going up and people are dropping or losing their insurance.

We have a critical election coming up and it’s more important than ever to encourage friends to get out and vote their values. People of faith and supporters of religious freedom should put country before party loyalty. We’re faced with two paths leading in opposite directions and voters will decide America’s future in a few short weeks.
