Across storm-ravaged Staten Island, frustrations are mounting. One resident there told CBS station WCBS, “We’re gonna die! We’re gonna freeze! We’ve got 90-year-old people!”

  1. Obama will help you, he has said that many times. If you doubt that, vote for Romney.

  2. If the OBummer followers don’t wake the hell up that is Exactly what it will be like all over America from Coast to Coast after he closes all the coal minds and finds a way to close down Fracking where people drill for oil on private lands. We will be like that lady begging for help, begging for heat, sitting in 6 hr gas lines then by the time you get up to the gas pumps they are empty. Food shortages everywhere because trucks can’t get the gas to deliver the food to the stores and on and on and on. This is the Exact Example of the future if this Communist remains in the WH. The problem is you could NEVER get that through the empty headed zombies who think he is “THE ONE”

  3. Hysterical whining woman with true concerns for the safety of the elderly, but any belief she has that Obama will come riding in on his white steed to save the day…that’s ludicrous at least.

Life ain’t fair and sometimes adversity throws a hard-breaking curve ball that’s almost impossible to hit. People in the affect areas should be prepared to make due with what they’ve got, because the old FEMA line about “I’m from the Govt. and I’m here to help” isn’t truthful. There are so many areas that are affected by Sandy’s path and as the Good Book indicates, “The Good Lord helps those that help themselves!”

My empathies, but you were warned and chose to stay instead of leaving the area. These folks are not different that the throng of folks that Katrina caught with their pants down. We lived a total of 12 years in New Orleans area, we’re very familiart with hurricanes. Spent a short time living in Orleans, moved to Jefferson Parish and later moved across the river to St Bernard Parish, where I taught high cshool.

We booked/evacuated/left each time a serious threat was predicted. We were lucky to have left less than 6wks before Katrina to return to my wife’s'home area in Missouri. The NYC crowd is up a creek with a very leaky boat and no paddle. Good luck to all those American citizens inconvenienced or suffering. Tomorrow’s another day and even with just union members…they’ll get it cleared and cleaned up wo twhere it will look probably better than before the hurricane.

Hey…how’d the Marathon go today? Shows what value you are to the Mayor! Once again, good luck folks from here on out with recovering a semblance of whatever possesions you had and the life you led. Be thankful for what you have.

    • Such generosity of Spirit, Spoon! I’m sure the history of your escapes from disasters will be a comfort to anyone your post is passed on to [no electricity there.] Weren’t you the lucky ones to have the where with all to leave? Has it occurred to you that the lady you refer to as ‘hysterical and whining’ is desperate for the survival of her family and neighbors? I hope you didn’t pass this lack of humanity and Scarlett O’Hara attitude on to your students. What do you think gives you the omnipotence to try and quote the Bible to people who are in a position not to be able to help themselves and then tell them to be ‘thankful for what they have’? You sound like a miserable old ‘coot’ to me. Nobody cares about where you lived or worked or anything else about you for that matter. God forbid that you ever need help or solace in any circumstances, because by the way you have written, I doubt anybody would rush to give it to you!

      • Unless you’ve lived for a spell in a hurricane-riden chunk of this country…get of your high horse meg.

This woman’s alive, has her home and can endure a few days of hardship. You’re fogetting the 80+ that lost their lives do to Sandy’s wrath. If the early settlers and pioneers had your and this woman’s attitudes, they damn sure wouldn’t haven’t survived, not to mention what US troops have endured the world over for others over the course of the too many wars since the War of Northern aggression.

Keep things in perspective. Life stinks sometimes, but how about the alternative? Ask those that have lost members of their families and see what kind of response you get. I’m tired of the whiners and complainers that rant and rave but lack the fortitude to stand tall when they have too. If the “90 year olds” have significant medical needs, then this woman should be addressing their medical needs instead of complaining to a useless democratic party congressman about freezing to death. He’s only there for the PR. Mr Schummer could less about these peoples’ welfare. Believe it or don’t.

Rember the lives lost…keep things in perspective!

      • These people had time to prepare, What happen to to self sufficiency?
Why did they not take action when they could?
I hope they learn from this that they need to depend upon themselves first.
My hope would be to get things back to normal as soon as possible.
You seem to forget that people solve problems not governments.

  4. These people sound desperate. I don’t think Obozo and Schumer really care. They only care for their political advantage. These people should have known that the govt wouldn’t come to their rescue real soon. Obozo and the DemonRats condemned Bush for not helping the New Orleans victims of Hurricane Katrina fast enough and they called him racist because a lot of people in New Orleans are black. Well, look at Obozo. He must be racist, too, because a lot of the people on Staten Island are white. Can anyone say HYPOCRISY!?

    • The worse thing with GW Bush was FEMA and the RedCross was waiting around the perimeter of the city and couldn’t go in until Ray Nagin and kathleen Blanco allowed them to. These 2 idiots were fighting amongst themselves. Bush called for martial law and finally were able to get help to these people. I don’t know what the issues are this time. Many said today that FEMA came through and took their background information and handed them a phone # to call. What’s with that?

  5. That woman is talking to the most uninformed person in Congress. A poor excuse for a man. Why didn’t he come with food and essentials. Just wanted to make an appearane like Obama and pretend he really cares.

  6. There is no reason why the folks on the island cannot get help…boats can deliver gasoline, MRI’s and water for starters……the have been lied to by their senator and the president …….

  7. Chris Christie, I am certain is stuffing his face as the residence of New Jersey are kept in the dark, without power because the Brotherhood of Electrical Union’s are turning away electrical experts that came from other states to help because they are non union members, how insane is all of that?

Obama is a big Union supporter which is why he gave away a percentage of both GM and Chrysler to the Union worker’s at the expense of the American people. Obama knows it is easy to spend other peoples money, like the 80 billion that he gave to his Green initiative supporters.

Obama has to go as does the governor of New Jersey, Christies inability to control his eating habits is a clear indicator of his overall character. Weight Watcher’s might be ideal for him, but with him being as overweight that he is, I suspect that nothing can ever help him, other than him stuffing his bloated fat face with a few double cheese burgers and the citizen’s of his state freeze and suffer from lack of food, gas, heat and accommodations.

  8. OKIE – When has Obama told the truth? And you forgot about Mayor Bloomberg’s pressing need to pull resources…GENERATORS & LIGHTING units away from strom affected areas so they could conduct the NYC Marathon. True Leadership in government is a rare commodity. When you toss in a crisis, no matter how big or how small…brains seem to short circuit among those that many others have become to dependent upon.

Sad days and hardships in store for those that don’t have or didn’t think to have a “what if” pantry with food, water and an alternative cooking source. Once again, my empathy to the survivors, sorrows for those that lost their lives and comforts for their family members.

  9. Please check tomorrow and see if they have gotten any help.

  10. To the for G-ds sakes it’s NY Person. I live in Florida. I suffered with many hurricanes Been without food and water along with electric for 6-10 weeks and not once did the people of Florida demand gasoline or water or food. If you know there is going to be a hurricane get a generator and fill up several tanks of gasoline you get water you buy water juices can sodas, crackers , matzah and tuna and other meat dishes you can eat out of a can Beans are great protein as well as Peanut butter. The Government owes you NOTHING……We toughed it out and we have plenty more elderly here then in NY. I find Nyers unable to coupe but are the first ones to point fingers and complain. Get some balls lady and live with it.

  11. And so here these poor people have no food, no gas and no car to get out. Government is their answer and Fema and their Congressman are about as much help as a hemorrhoid. Looks familiar to what people went through in New Orleans but not nearly as bad. Try 100 plus degree heat and people / police shooting at you and taking your weapons. And so people blamed George Bush and Browne for not doing enough fast enough.
This does not look good for Fema.

  12. All the states hit by Sandy were gay marriage states. The people who forget God end up in hell.
