Secretary Chu: DOE Working To Wean U.S. Off Oil – Not Lower Gas Prices

Well, Secretary of Energy Steven Chu told the truth before a House appropriations committee earlier this week.

During an exchange with Rep. Alan Nunnelee (R-MS), Chu was asked: “But is the overall goal to get our price” of gasoline down, asked Nunnelee. “No, the overall goal is to decrease our dependency on oil, to build and strengthen our economy,” Chu replied. “We think that if you consider all these energy policies, including energy efficiency, we think that we can go a long way to becoming less dependent on oil and [diversifying] our supply and we’ll help the American economy and the American consumers.”

This is the same sort of nonsense that Chu expounded in 2008 while he was the head of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California. Chu told The Wall Street Journal that energy prices were the lynchpin to an energy overhaul. “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.”

They’ve figured it out, all right: Block oil drilling, pipeline construction, coal production, and natural gas exploration – and leave us with algae, wind mills, and solar panels. Welcome to the Dark Ages.

There you have it. An open admission from an Obamunist that the Administration WANTS higher gas prices in order to force us into using “green” energy resources and, of course, driving Chevy Volts until the batteries explode.

Such criminality must be punished at the polls in November.

  1. Wean?….How about scam us away from having the normal tools to make this nation run in the exceptional mode as expected and steal as much as possible on the way?

  2. Your agenda is ass backwards you fool. Until such time alternative energy forms are mature enough to supplant oil and coal, it is your responsibility to aid in the resumption of the economy so that the PRIVATE SECTOR will implement the newer forms of energy. That means doing everything in your power to make oil and coal more affordable than it is now! If you are reluctant to do that, please let us know so we can find a suitable replacement director at DOE as soon as you decide whether you find yourself suited to the task. We would recommend Timothy Geithner. He seems more inept at his job, but you are fast closing the gap at yours.

  3. Well they better start building a billion plus alternative energy cars now to replace the billion plus gas cars that are already here, and I need mine by tomorrow because I have to drive to work. Seriously though when you listen to this administration talk they don’t know what the hell they are saying. Obama “create a fuel using algea,” Chu “wean us off oil dependence,” Geitner “being American is a priviledge,” and Napolitano “beware the TEA party because they could be subversive.” Obama must have scoured the yellow pages of AIR HEAD UNIVERSITY to find people as inept as him. The best one was his economic team tells him to spend a nearly a trillion dollars to stimulate the economy and bring unemployment below 8%, with “shovel ready” projects. They failed and quit, Obama say’s “Shovel ready wasn’t as shovel ready as we thought, hee hee hee.” Everybody laughs the country is broke and this yahoo wants to run for a second term. He should follow the economic team, run away and teach.
